The Sentinel Speakeasy: episode #6 featuring special guest Samantha Lee from Redfern Legal Centre – Tuesday, 29 March, 2021

Welcome to the Sentinel Speakeasy, the weekly podcast of the Sydney Sentinel.

In this episode, the Sentinel's editor Peter Hackney and features editor Travis de Jonk explore the top headlines of the week, including how rosy economic statistics are masking real life hardships which may be worsening with benefits cuts and the end of JobKeeper; the surprise reports by the tenants union showing rents decreasing in Sydney’s  inner city and Eastern Suburbs; eviction notices issued to tenants at Sydney’s Northcott Estate social housing complex; and a long awaited announcement by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian relaxing Covid restrictions in NSW.

This week we ask the question, ‘Does NSW have a problem with police strip searches?’ squarely putting the focus on the important issue of illegal strip searches being conducted by NSW Police that has already seen them pay over $100million in settlements. To explore this, we speak to Samantha Lee from Redfern Legal Centre who is teaming up with legal firm Slater and Gordon to pursue the biggest class action case against NSW police in the state's history.

Mesothelioma is known as the ‘silent killer’. It’s a cancer that lays dormant in its victims’ bodies for decades, before extinguishing their life during their golden years. But this is a cancer that could have been almost completely avoided.
