    Sleepaway Camp

    Sleepaway Camp

This is our 3rd year of Halloween content. Even to this day, we can't decide on what to call it. Is it "Spooky Penis Month"? Is it "Halloweiners"? It can probably be a combination of both.

Either way, we're starting off our favourite season right with a film we're a little embarrassed to have not seen before. Yeah, it's Robert Hiltzik's cult classic SLEEPAWAY CAMP. I mean, we're glad we waited to cover this film as adults as it's easily one of the best horror films we've seen with an ending that honestly leaves you haunted but also, one of the most important scenes we've covered on this podcast.

You honestly won't want to miss our commentary on this classic but if you have yet to see the film, please don't allow it to be spoiled for you. You have been warned!

Ep. 199: Arcane Sounds From The Big SCREAM 2

Ep. 199: Arcane Sounds From The Big SCREAM 2

Happy Friday the 13th! Join us as we head over to Video Shop to pick out a frightastic flick! That’s right, we are going to rent some tapes and we’re prepared for blood n’ gore n’ frights! Did you ever hear about rock bands selling their souls to the devil, and if you listen to their music or play their albums backward you will turn into a demonic zombie??? The 70s, 80s, and 90s were full of films about horrific demons and metal n’ punk bands either having their songs featured in the movie or were themselves featured as the subject of the film. Grab your Reeses Pieces, large Coke, a severed limb, and hum along.

What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week Robert gets a glimpse into another collection of lost and forgotten songs from the silver screen SCREAM! Our hope is that we turn you on to something new… and that you make it to the end of the movie!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Dee Snider – “Inconclusion” from Dee Snider’s Strangeland (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)(1998)
    2. Dangerous Toys – “Demon Bell (The Ballad Of Horace Pinker” from Shocker - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1989)
    3. Lion – “Love Is A Lie” from Friday The 13th – The Final Chapter – Songs From The Original Motion Picture (1984)
    4. Sorcery – “I’m Back” from Rocktober Blood (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (1984)
    5. Anvil – “Straight Between The Eyes” from Sleepaway Camp II – Unhappy Campers – Songs From The Original Motion Picture (1988)
    6. Paul Sabu – “Street Angel (Mark Of The Devil)” from Hard Rock Zombies (1985)
    7. Type O Negative – “[We Were] Electrocute” from Freddy VS Jason – The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (2003)

177 - Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland (1989) Review

177 - Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland (1989) Review

Angela is back at camp, this time under the alias of a young teenage girl she chased down and killed. Camp New Horizons, the new camp built atop the old one, is welcoming several new campers this year, however, one camper starts killing off all the naughty campers one by one.

Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland isn't a great movie, but it's a fun installment with great kills and charm. The series is a favorite of ours and although, this is our least favorite Sleepaway Camp movie to this point, we did enjoy some of the crazy kills and characters. Watch the movie and catch our review.

Angela is back at summer camp and this time she's a counselor sending all the naughty campers packing. Of course, she tells her boss, Uncle John, the campers are just going home, but she's really sending them to their grave. Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers stars Pamela Springsteen, who is Bruce Springsteen's sister. Witch's Bridge

    Witch's Bridge

"He stared down at himself with the same horrified expression. I knew right away he saw it too. As I opened my mouth to say something, he screamed. His feet fell out from under him, and I screamed too as his head hit the edge of the bridge, as I watched him seemingly get pulled straight down into the river."

In Great Falls, Montana, some police officers are among those who believe that one of their jail cells is haunted. The Old Cascade County Jail was built in the early 1900s, directly across the street from the west face of the courthouse. Bob Edwards, a Cascade County Sheriff , claims he saw a strange mist floating through through the old cells on a video monitor. It spooked him. And to this day, he has no explanation for it.

According to local legend, she was believed to dabble in witchcraft. Or at least that’s what she was accused of. One night, some scared local townspeople decided to form a vigilante lynch mob, and take what they considered to be justice into their own hands. They decided to kill who they believed to be a heretic. And when they made it to her house that night, they grabbed the poor woman, and they hanged her from a tree directly in front of her her home. According to legend, in her last moments, she cursed the house and the surrounding land and still haunts the area today.

Summer Camp should be a fun time to hang out with your friends and enjoy your freedom from your parents. It shouldn't be a place that you and your friends find themselves terrified of what comes in the night. In story one, Lynze walks us through a very bizarre summer camp story. After that, she has two more tales, both about haunted houses. The first house appears to very angry when the new owners begin to renovate. It's a classic haunted tale! The second haunted house comes with a big twist at the end, so stay tuned for the most chilling details!

"Whether thou art a ghost that hath come from the earth, or a phantom of night that hath no home… or one that lieth dead in the desert… or a ghost unburied… or a demon or a ghoul… Whatever thou be until thou art removed… thou shalt find here no water to drink… Thou shalt not stretch forth thy hand to our own… Into our house enter thou not. #8: Summer of the Slasher - Off to Sleepaway Camp!

In our last slash of the summer, we take a trip to Sleepaway Camp! With short shorts, crop tops, and one of the most iconic endings of horror history, we’ve got a lot to discuss. NOTE: Our discussion heavily features topics of transgender representation, and includes deadnaming and discussion of trans bodies and body dysmorphia, which may be triggering to some listeners.

    Homesickness

    Homesickness

It's it’s VERY important to prepare your child properly, especially after 16 months of stressful pandemic restrictions. Therefore, we have provided you a link from one of the nation’s top psychologists & camp advisers.

In this video, Dr. Chris Thurber provides tips for parents to work with their children BEFORE camp to ensure a smooth transition, and reduce the intensity of first-year campers’ homesickness and COVID concerns.

Even if your child has been to camp before, we HIGHLY recommend you review this resource so your child will have the best experience at camp and away from home this summer. Enjoy!
