    Ben Mehl - Interview

    Ben Mehl - Interview
Handsome, multi-talented actor Ben Mehl (“The Good Wife”) is starring in his first series regular role opposite Penn Badgley in Netflix’s popular series “You” which returns for its highly-anticipated 3rd season. Developed by Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti, You is based on Caroline Kepnes’ bestselling books You and Hidden Bodies. In the third season, Joe and Love are married and raising their newborn son, Henry, in the Californian suburb of Madre Linda. As their relationship dynamic takes a new turn, Joe continues to repeat the cycle of obsession with a burgeoning interest in Natalie, the next-door neighbor. This time, Love will flip the script to ensure that her dream of having the perfect family will not be torn away so easily by Joe’s compulsive actions. Mehl plays the role of Dante, a confident, independent, but fallible human being who has found extraordinary ways to adapt and continues to be a librarian even after losing his sight. A veteran whose eyesight was damaged, Dante is a dedicated family man with a husband and two stepchildren who longs to expand his family, and delights in helping his friends with their children. Season 3 of YOU premieres on October 15th, 2021 on Netflix. Although Mehl plays a blind character, Mehl is not totally blind, he is legally blind. He was diagnosed with a rare genetic form of macular degeneration called Stargardt’s disease which causes one to lose their central vision. He was told the condition was progressive and there was no treatment or cure and eventually his vision deteriorated to the point where he could no longer read normal sized text or recognize faces. This led him to rethink his career, but he came out of this deciding to not let this disease define him but would try his absolute best to learn what it meant to be an actor. In order to prepare for role as Dante, a blind character, Mehl trained with an orientation and mobility specialist to learn the proper techniques for using a white cane. At times, he felt like he was preparing for what his future may hold for him. He spent hours observing and taking notes outside a building for blind residents in New York and gained a deep appreciation for the skill it takes to navigate the world without sight. His character was inspired by Sera Gamble’s godfather who was blind and created this character because she believed even those who are blind deserve to be represented. Recognizing his privilege within the community of not being completely blind, it was important for him to do his research and portray this character accurately. Born and raised in Toronto, Ben loved to perform at a young age. As a 4th grader, a teacher heard Mehl singing the national anthem at school and recommended he audition for Claude Watson School for the Arts, a public school that required an audition to be admitted. It was there where he explored drama, music, dance, and was an active student joining the swim team, four different choirs, and school shows in addition to being passionate about science and space. He graduated from the University of Toronto where he double majored in Astrophysics and Drama. He proceeded to audition for acting schools and was accepted to NYU’s Graduate Acting Program and Julliard and eventually choosing to attend NYU for his MFA. Mehl is best known for his work in “The Good Wife” and has much experience performing in regional theater in New York and Shakespeare in the Park. In addition to acting, Mehl is also teaching acting, voice and movement for actors in NYC. He has taught Movement and Shakespeare’s Clowns at the NYU Graduate Acting Program, where he received his MFA and teaches Voice and Movement, Physical Characterization and Combat at the New York Film Academy and has also taught at The Public Theater, Red Bull Theater, the Refugee Youth Summer Academy, the New School and as a private coach. Fun fact: Mehl is an extremely talented beatboxer! Tarah Who? - Interview

    Tarah Who? - Interview
Tarah Who? Well, “she” equals “they,” and “they’re” a power duo masterminded by grunge-punk sage Tarah Carpenter, a firebrand front-woman who channels explosive emotionality into rousing anthems. “I’m really sensitive to things that happen around me, and I love studying psychology and human behavior,” Tarah shares. “When I write, I seek to process personal stories and news stories through these perspectives, but in a way that’s relatable to everyone.” Tarah exudes a spiritual centeredness that is poetically aligned to the origins of her name. The name “Tara” in Buddhist lore refers to the “mother of liberation,” an apt archetypal reference for such a strong and shamanistic female artist. Tarah Who? recalls 1990s alt-rock and grunge’s tradition of balancing integrity with tuneful song-craft. Entries in the Tarah Who? oeuvre sit nicely alongside Alanis Morissette, Foo fighters, The Distillers, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Spinerette. Tarah Who? is a in every sense of the phrase, bonded together by telepathic musical interplay and profound interpersonal connections. In addition to Tarah, drummer/backing vocalist Coralie Hervé. Previously, Tarah Who? has released two full-lengths, three EPs, and one single of raw punky rock n’ roll. The duo’s output has garnered plaudits and earned feature-story coverage from GIG Radar, Kill The Music, La Grosse Radio, Loud Stuff, Moshville, Music Connection, Muzak, and The Ring Master, among other outlets. It’s a remarkable feat for an unsigned band to make such waves in the biz, but Tarah Who?’s incendiary live shows and snarling sing-alongs are hard to ignore. Even alt-pop goddess Alanis Morissette’s guitarist Jason Orme has given a big stamp approval to the group, co-producing and playing guitar alongside Tarah on the recently released EP’s, Half Middle Child Syndrome,64Women and the single to be release in November 2019 Pantomath. With a stable lineup, and a dynamic rhythm section that can effortlessly shift from scorched-earth rock to tender balladry, the duo is embarking on a halcyon era ushered in by its current EP, 64 Women. Tarah was born in France and began smashing away at the drums at just 14, ignoring those around her who suggested she try her hand at a more “ladylike” musical pursuit. Willful, and somewhat stubborn, she honed her chops, forged her own creative path, and branched out to bass, guitar, singing, songwriting, and producing (she produces the band’s music). After a fateful move to Los Angeles, Tarah made her solo debut as Tarah Who? at a warehouse party. It was a gig she found on Craigslist, and it proved to be the perfect opportunity to share the songs she had been writing privately. Up next, the duo will be promoting the new single, Pantomath and coming back from their tour, they will be working on a new EP. The Ladies of Tarah Who? Are fired up, inspired, and tighter as friends and musicians. Inclosing, drummer Coralie Herve offers this final thought: “When I first met Tarah, it floored me how bold she is; I felt this exuberance and fire from her. It reminded me of why I play music in the first place.” Follow us on IG and Facebook: @societytalkspodcast Follow Joe: @joe_lorenzo Podcast edit by: @elevig #StaySafe #StayCreative #SocietyPerformers ARE #AloneTogether #SocietyTalks #JoeLorenzo #SocietyEntertainment

I left many of these exchanges knowing something was missed or left unsaid. I thought, why is the statement ‘Black Lives Matter’ even up for debate? Why is it viewed as a political statement instead of fact? I wrote ‘Matter’ to address everyone. To encourage introspection and to keep peeling back the layers of ourselves.” “I know there are a plethora of causes we can be donating our money to in the name BLM,” she continues. “I feel particularly excited about these organizations. Abundant Beginnings is an org dedicated to educating youths in social and environmental justice. Sista Afya provides resources to black women in order to sustain mental wellness and community. What I like about both of these, is that they are building towards a healthier and sustainable future.”Joining the Metropolitan Opera at an early age, Campbell went on to grace Broadway stages in productions such as Hamilton, where she met girlfriend Candace Quarrels and formed R&B folk duo Mermaid - whose upcoming debut album showcases production by Matt Otto (Solange, Moses Sumney) and Sam Hoffman (Mereba). Campbell's own debut album Stay Gold was self-released in 2018, showing off her arsenal of emotion-invoking lyrics and vocals. Campbell’s creative passions also led her to become a self taught animator, who apart from animating her own videos, has animated videos for the likes of supermodel Shaun Ross, who tapped her to animate a video for his debut single "Symmetry."
