Committing to Your Wellness & Embracing Breathwork with Lo Bundy

My guest today is Lo Bundy from Nova Scotia, Canada. She says having to slow down during the pandemic and heal from two concussions forced her to face the fear that arose for her while sitting in stillness.

During her recovery, she had a mentor who introduced her to breathwork -- and it changed everything for her -- allowing her to drop into her body, reduce her post-partum anxiety to the point where she no longer needed medication, and rebalance her life and business so that she was embracing both her masculine and feminine qualities.

    About Lo Bundy
With 15 years of nursing experience, a background as a personal trainer and online coach, and a deep commitment to trauma-informed Breathwork, Lo Bundy brings a holistic approach to well-being. As a proud mom of two & two baby kitties, her passion for health extends beyond conventional boundaries. Whether lifting weights in the gym or finding tranquility through yoga, she embraces diverse paths to wellness.

    ANCESTRAL WISDOM: Euphrasia (Éfu) Nyaki

    ANCESTRAL WISDOM: Euphrasia (Éfu) Nyaki
Born and raised on Mount Kilimanjaro’s slopes in Tanzania, East Africa, Efu explains how she came to develop her profoundly successful system for helping people heal trauma by integrating ancestral tribal wisdom with a fusion of two Western healing systems: Somatic Experiencing and Systemic Family Constellations Therapy. She shares how her journey to become a healer was initiated by her Grandfather, who told her the legend of the sacred healing snail of the Nyaki clan. She explains how she discovered Somatic Experiencing and Systemic Family Constellations Therapy, and how combining these therapies created a powerful system for releasing cellular memories and healing the intergenerational and collective traumas hidden beneath the surface of suffering.

E14. The Impact of Ancestral Trauma on Career, Somatic Body Work, and Intergenerational Healing w/ Angela

E14. The Impact of Ancestral Trauma on Career, Somatic Body Work, and Intergenerational Healing w/ Angela

What legacy burdens and intergenerational trauma do you carry? And how does this impact your career aspirations? What is intergenerational healing, and how do I get there?

In this episode, special guest Angela Tam, LMFT (they/she) delves into a powerful conversation about the profound impact of intergenerational trauma on professionals of color. They share their insights on working with first, second, and third-generation individuals who have experienced immigration trauma and how this trauma manifests in their lives.  Angela's personal connection to the topic, being the child of refugees from the Vietnam War, adds a layer of authenticity to their work.

The conversation explores how these experiences affect individuals in their professional lives, and Whitney and Angela share about how legacy burdens and intergenerational trauma show up in their lives and impact them in career. And Angela introduces a powerful shift in considering what intergenerational healing can look like.

Angela shares personal experiences and insights, emphasizing the importance of embracing and befriending our fears and doubts, rather than simply reframing them. They discuss the concept of reclaiming one's essence and reconnecting with the core parts of self, which is self-healing and filled with qualities like courage, creativity, compassion, and curiosity.

No Cheat Code, with Elisha Halpin

No Cheat Code, with Elisha Halpin

In this episode of the Skeptical Shaman Podcast, host Rachel White (of TOTEM Readings) chats with Elisha Halpin, a nervous system-training coach that works with individuals wanting to get out of adrenal fatigue, effectively retraining their brains to not freak the f*ck out all the damn time.

Elisha calls herself an ‘awakened academic’, having extracted herself from the grind of higher education to work with clients to heal trauma through meditation, somatic therapy, and much, much more. She works with clients to achieve better nervous system regulation—no small feat in our nervous system-destroying world.

In this discussion, we explore the hyperstimulation of the simulacra in which we live: a world obsessed with the “viral”, the hyper-novel, and the increasingly depraved and intense as we hunt for the illusive brain chemicals that generate the happy feels.

Long story short: there are no cheat codes are hacks to mental health or spiritual development, so stop treating this stuff like a vending machine. There is no short cut.

The bottom line? Chasing the dragon of dopamine while fighting off the monster of cortisol is no way to go through life. Sometimes, we all just need to get back to the somatic and cerebral version of the missionary position. With socks on. And lights off.

I realize this is a daring and risqué metaphor, but it’s also apt.  I mean, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Join Elisha and I in our crusade to empower others to chop wood and carry water: i.e. embrace the meditation of the mundane and the recalibration to normal that our nervous systems are dying to experience again. All of life is sacred—not just the neon, smell-o-vision stuff!

We wrap up our discussion with a card pull from the TOTEM Tarot Deck, and it does not disappoint!

    Ep 56 - Anxiety Hangovers

    Ep 56 - Anxiety Hangovers

Let's talk hangovers.  Not the hangover you get from drinking too much and feeling anxious the day after, an anxiety hangover.  In Episode 56, I'm talking about the residual anxiety that sticks around  for a few days, especially when you're not anxious all day every day, even when your trigger or the circumstance that made you anxious is long gone. Check it out.

    Navigating ADHD with Following Energy

    Navigating ADHD with Following Energy

This conversation begins with Jesse Kauffman,  a psychotherapist who specializes in ADHD, offering a brief overview of ADHD as a nuanced journey.

Host Staci Boden then shares how she began following the energy of ADHD through working with clients.

From there, Staci and Jesse explore the meaning of difference, trauma, somatic connection, hyper focus, and creative genius within the realm of ADHD in relationship with following energy.

What emerges is powerful possibility for the many ways following energy might inspire and support people living with ADHD.

In fact, following energy can be a resource for navigating ADHD through:

    • living more intentionally
    • recognizing paradox and nuance
    • facilitating embodied awareness through somatic practice
    • perceiving differences as valuable if not always comfortable (ie. neurodiversity)
    • transforming energetic and somatic experiences of shame, fear, trauma
    • providing structure which also supports creative exploration
    • balancing individual needs with big picture aspirations
    • learning inner trust and intuition
    • replacing a need to control with the ability to make healthier choices
    • shifting reacting into responding to improve relationships

Deep Practical Play: (Some) Benefits of Following Energy

Host and lead somatic energy teacher, Staci Boden opens today's episode with a brief reflection about the shift with the podcast into following energy. From there, she offers a quick somatic practice, introduces her guest, Miki Johnson,  and explore some deep, practical and playful benefits that come from following energy.

Miki is an ICF-certified leadership coach, a somatic energy guide, a 7Directions dance ceremony facilitator, a business founder four times over, and the mother of two amazing little boys. Through her career, ranging from journalism and marketing to employer branding and enterprise sales, and now her coaching and facilitation work, the connecting thread has been to lead with curiosity, to listen for the story under the surface, and to look for unexpected connections.

Based on her long relationship with following energy, Miki shares that following energy has led to a "whole life transformation" as a resource for:

    • Navigating an overwhelmed, stuck and spinning mind
    • Learning to trust your decision making process
    • Letting go of exhausting (codependent) over-giving
    • Becoming an empowered and empowering business leader and mom
    • Feeling supported by something bigger, as if you're not going it alone
    • Meeting the crunch of daily mishaps with curiosity and play
    • Developing the ability to navigate hard times, and the wisdom to know the difference
