Rock n Roll Grad School #8- Singer/Songwriter John Ellison

Rock n Roll Grad School #8- Singer/Songwriter John Ellison

John Ellison is music royalty. As a member of the Soul Brothers Six, John wrote Some Kind of Wonderful,  a song that became an instant classic and that has been covered by the likes of Q-Tip, Joss Stone, Conway Twitty and, of course, Grand Funk Railroad.

We talked with John in the summer of 2020, in the midst of the Black Lives Matter protests, and learned about John's story and the song he wrote inspired by the racial inequality in the United States called (Wake Up Call) Black Like Me.

Why? Episode 92 (Bonus!)- Music Great John Ellison

Why? Episode 92 (Bonus!)- Music Great John Ellison

John Ellison is one of the great songwriters of all time. His "Some Kind of Wonderful," is known the world over as a classic and it's been covered by a wide array of musicians. John has just released a new song, "Wake-Up Call (Black Like Me)" and it's a powerful statement and indictment of the times we are living in.

But it wasn't all serious with John. He also let us sing backup with him. He's likely regretting that decision. For more information on John, check out his website. "Wake-Up Call (Black Like Me) can be downloaded from wherever you get your digital music.
