We are back with the skeleton crew of myself, Jaime and Hiram in Los Angeles.  We start off by talking about the Colorado hype train going off the rails as they blow a 29 point lead this past weekend.  We then turn right into the NFL and of course Taylor Swift remains the lead for over the past month.  We talk about the power of the swifties and the impact she has on everything she touches.  I ask the guys if they would rather have the Josh Allen drink or the Tapeworm shot.  You'll have to tune in to find out.  I ask if they guys are into the fries and milkshake thing.  I've never tried and wanted to know what the big deal was.

BBQ Time - I go back to Wild in Willacy in Raymondville where we won our first Grand Championship in competitive barbecue.  I think we might have had a chance to bring another one home.  I tell you all about the festivities they had at this event.  I get some wings from my friends at Wing Champs in Raymondville.  I try out an experiment I've been wanting to try as I made some beef short rib sliders on the smoker.  We go from talking about bone-in wings to bone in steaks and if people are still ordering them.  We then talk about ordering steaks and Hiram tells us about a new term we haven't heard before called Medium Plus.   Nick sends us a video about baking a steak in a salt crust.  Guess we have to try it.  We end the barbecue talk with some chicken Joe tips.

Hiram tells us about the latest going on in Hollywood.  RIP Suzanne Somers.  That snowballs into hot girls celebrities from our childhood.  We then talk about the joke of the Logan Paul fight that happened on the weekend although we don't think anyone watched.

We are back to the skeleton crew with as Jaime and Hiram join me to discuss some of the latest headlines.  It's football season as we prepare to watch week 1 of college football.  We talk about the weekend's games and then dive into some NFL talk with a surprising trade by the Cowboys to pick up Trey Lance from the Niners.  I ask the guys who their GOAT quarterback is after an interview with Joe Montana reveals his own best QB.  We also get into some boxing and celebrity fights coming up between traditional and nontraditional fighters.

BBQ Time - I tell the guys about a new twist on surf and turf that I tried out.  I saw this on Jess Pryles's page and used all of her products for this.  I tried the new Hardcore Carnivore sausage links with shrimp on a skewer seasoned with her Hardcore Carnivore seasoning. Super fan Eddie likes what I did and did his own level 100 twist on this dish.  Totally one upped me on this one.  Jaime gives some props to Juniors as we tried their fajitas for the first time.  Solid selection with very little effort and no added seasoning.  Hiram tells us about a Gucci party he attends in the Hills for the second year in a row.  You'll have to tune in to hear about the spread they had along with live music and views of the Hollywood sign in the hills.  I talk about practicing some ribs as the American Royal cookoff nears.

Hiram tells us about the writers' strike and how we probably won't get episodes of our new shows in the fall.  Taylor Swift is coming to the AMC theaters in October so now everyone can watch the Eras concert.  We've got Labor Day Weekend coming up.  We talk a little bit about the acceptable distance for someone to smell you when you are wearing cologne.

Jaime hates California as he takes a shot that is still waiting to land.  Taylor Swift gets invited to sing at the Super Bowl halftime show and she declines in the best way possible.  Jaime doesn't agree as always cause he thinks the NFL is bigger than the NFL.  I happen to come across the Beanie Baby movie and give a short review.  The guys talk about the Johnny Football documentary on Netflix.

BBQ Time - Hiram keeps the cold sear trend going as he cold sears a Tomahawk steak that one of his buddies just happened to have in the fridge.  He adds a little twist to the cooking because of the size of the steak.  I give another Tik Tok tip that I find about searing your steak at the end.  The guys want to know if it is more important to have grill grates or a nice crust on a steak.  We talk about HEB barbecue once again as we get a thumbs up from one of our Joes that goes and tries out a beef rib.

Hiram tells us about a visit to Marina del Rey where he has some Gucci sushi and gets started way too early in the day.  We give a little shout out to my Dad as we remember his birthday today and the reason why we started barbecuing in the first place.  It could be in his backyard or at Texas Longhorn tailgates.  My dad comes up with a way to cook a chicken in an innovative way before there were Tik Tok videos.

BBQ Time - I visit the sister restaurant of Teddy's Barbecue, Jolene's.  I didn't order barbecue but instead ordered the fried chicken sandwich as an ode the Chicken Wars in Season 1.  I will definitely stamp this one the crunchy juicy as Hector would say.  They also have some fried spare ribs that we've talked about but never tried.  Maybe next time.  Jaime would like to make a trip out there to try the chicken fried steak.  My cousin cooks us up some Loco Mocos.  Jaime disrespects the whole Nation of Hawaii by describing it as meh. He also cooked up some Pikana steaks which came out great.  We talk about all you can eat restaurants and what are the best buffet options when it comes to food.

Behind the Red Carpet.  It's the end of the Summer so we talk summer blockbusters we've seen and even more that we haven't seen.  I run through the top 12 earning summer blockbusters of Summer 2023.  Have you ever wanted to hear takes from movies the critics haven't seen well then you've come to the right place.  Hiram shares his love for Tom Cruise but he's not Jaime's favorite. We give an animated Spider-Man movie some love but don't think they can do a live action version of this one.  Barbie crosses the Billion dollar threshold in a very short amount of time.  Jaime thinks Chris Pratt is so hot right now.

We set up for fight night with a projector and Mexican street tacos curtesy of my brother the cook.  My sister and I try a Corona sunrise which is basically corona and a tequila sunrise.  Hiram thinks this whole mixing beer and drink thing is ridiculous. The crazy food combinations happen in the barbecue world as well.  I talk about a visit to a local place called Queenie's that is custom sausage dogs topped with all kinds of toppings.  Hiram thinks the whole world likes pizza in some form or another.  We pay a visit to GW BBQ again and I try a menu item that I hadn't tried yet.  Voted one of the top sandwiches in Texas Monthly.

Influencer that creates a virtual girlfriend experience makes $70,000 in the first week of going live.  A team of programmers recreates her virtually from all her you tube videos.  Of course some guys got the AI to get a little nasty going rogue from it's programming.  We ask Hiram about the current writers strike and how it's affecting television and movies.

BBQ time.  I give a recap of the cookoff we had this weekend at the Harvest Christian Academy Cookoff in Edinburg.  Tons of vendors showed up as well as a petting zoo and car show.  I was more than shocked by the results on this one especially they way that we've been cooking lately.  We went from Hero to zero on this one.  Jaime gives us a recap of his judging experience as he volunteers to judge brisket.  I give the guys a review of some cauliflower wings I had at Wings and Rings.  The point of the story was that I tried the ghost pepper ranch sauce they have now.  The guys have no interest in trying something that hot.

We talk about some conspiracy theories that have been going around lately.  I ask the guys if the government is controlling the weather.  Jaime and I both have buddies that think the government is bombing the clouds to control the weather. Jaime throws down some knowledge about what happens every 1200 thousands years.  Social media says we will be visited by Aliens in March.  Jaime drops some more deep thoughts about his theory on Aliens.

They are expecting over 200 cooking teams this year.  Friday night Midland is going to be the entertainment and we try to get some VIP passes from Christy. Christy gives us a lesson on why they hold the event and where the money goes to help the kids.  Christy tells us what else there is for families to do that show up to the event.  There will be vendors, food trucks, and much more for the people.

Hector manages to get a 7th place brisket and I get a 6th place brisket call.  Could have been better but over all we had a great time.
