    How to Downsize Your Home

    How to Downsize Your Home

In this week’s episode we are going to talk about how to downsize your home. If you are thinking of retiring, moving, or just need a smaller house we are here to help you figure out the pros and cons of downsizing. Having a plan in place is a great way to start. Waiting until the last minute can have a ton of issues that don’t allow a lot of options. There are great questions to start asking yourself like, where do you want to live, or move out of state? How much space do you need, and are you looking for single level living? How much space or storage do you need? Also how much money and time do you want to invest in this process? The biggest pro we see when our clients are downsizing is that now you have a smaller home to take care of! Which means less cleaning and less maintenance! You could also have a smaller mortgage or property taxes which will give you more money in your pocket every month. It is important to consider HOA fees, if you move into a condo. You will have to get your house ready to market, be knowledgeable about real estate fees, homeowners insurance, property taxes, and what furniture and items you are bringing with you. There are so many resources out there to help you downsize your home and we go over some options to look into. Check out this video for a lot more information on downsizing and let us know your experience with downsizing and if you are planning to downsize soon! Remember if you Make Maine Your Home, you don’t have to do it alone!

Maine Architecture | Traditional homes in Maine!

Maine Architecture | Traditional homes in Maine!

In this week's episode we are going to talk about Maine Architecture and the different styles of houses you’ll see here in Maine. Maine is over 200 years old and so there are a lot of amazing houses with beautiful architectural design! Some houses you’ll see here are 17th century colonial houses. While these houses may be plain they are extremely practical due to the farms they would have been attached to. We also talk about Georgian houses which are the bigger upgraded version of the colonial. Also we talk about Federal houses that are larger and unique. Last but not least we go into Victorian houses with their large scale and intricate details. There are so many types of houses in Maine, which one is your favorite? Let us know down in the comments and remember, if you Make Maine Your Home, you don’t have to do it alone!
