S02 E16: Life in Rhyming Scheme Ft. Rabia Kapoor

S02 E16: Life in Rhyming Scheme Ft. Rabia Kapoor

Gone are the days of heavy words and melancholy filled Shakespeare poetry. It's the time of relatability and rebellion. Poetry in the present day and age, for us millennials, is a way of expression. A lot of us are independent, often lonely, facing an identity crisis, and are still getting used to life as an adult. Many times, the emotions faced are inexpressible in regular conversation but when weaved into poetry, it is our version of putting things out in the world in a way that our heart is on our sleeve and poured out, we are relatable and at the same time, it is not too much personal information going out.
    It
was World Poetry Day on 21st March and to mark that, we invited fellow millennial and 'baby adult' Rabia Kapoor- she is a spoken word poet, a writer, an editor of a magazine named 'Spacebar' and freshly back in the city from London where she was studying.
Ayushi, Rytasha & Rabia chat about life in general, life in poetry, how does it feel to be back in the city and home after having stayed alone for a long time, and in this pandemic situation; about social media, the general attitude of the people towards youngsters and much more.
Tune in for some sisterhood and solidarity :)

We promise to incorporate your thoughts & queries. Do write to us on: aglastationadulthood@gmail.com

Spoken Word Poetry: Four Levels of Integration

Spoken Word Poetry: Four Levels of Integration

In honor of National Poetry Month, I talk about four different levels of integrating spoken word poetry into your classroom curriculum.  As a spoken word poet, I advocate for this genre because it adds emotional understanding to social justice issues.  I want my students to know that what I am teaching them is beyond research, data, and theories.  It is real, it is visceral, and these issues have a human toll that can only be understood on an emotional level.

Let Your Passion Drive Your Content (COVID 19)

Let Your Passion Drive Your Content (COVID 19)

Many of us are being driven to find/create content for the distance education format and I want to encourage us to allow our passions to drive our content.  My passion for hip hop lead me to develop into a spoken word poet, but more importantly, it helped me construct a curriculum that empowers historically marginalized students by helping them center their beliefs, culture, and perspectives in an academic environment.
    Quick points:
    - Pursuing your passions as an instructor allows the content to be meaningful to you
    - Use your classroom to help students pursue their own passions and this will close equity gaps
    - I use spoken word poetry to help students connect with the emotions of a social issue
