009 - Here Be Barr | The Ultimate Guide to New York City

009 - Here Be Barr | The Ultimate Guide to New York City

Jon Barr is the host of "Here Be Barr," a travel, lifestyle, and vlogging YouTube channel showing you everything you need to know about New York City.

Jon started his career in media as a sportscaster. But after burning out and reading about another NYC vlogger, Casey Neistat, he thought he'd give the YouTube thing a try. So he started making videos on his trips to different countries. He eventually settled on the niche of the city of New York.

As of this recording, his channel has 335k subscribers. There's no other channel out there that depicts the beauty, chaos, and variety that New York City has to offer...at the level of Jon's channel.

Jon and I cover: what it’s like to be a full-time content creator with a newborn baby, how Jon went from sportscaster to YouTuber, how Casey Neistat changed the YouTube space, Jon's protocol for when homeless people approach him, what stereotypes of New Yorkers are untrue, how long it can take for a video to go viral, and much more.

Steiner, a long time football play by play man in his Radio Hall of Fame broadcast career, he also hosted the NFL Network show Football America.  Charley has also been showcased in frequent interviews for the network’s NFL Top 10 series.

Episode 8: Putting the Miami Heat's Season into Perspective & Longtime Broadcaster for the Sacramento Kings, Grant Napear Joins the Show!

(01:39)  Recapping the Miami Heat's last two games before the All-Star break. Putting the first half of the Heat's season into perspective.

(09:31)  Special guest Grant Napear joins the show.

This week I had the honor of having long-time sportscaster and  former broadcaster of the Sacramento Kings for 32 years, Grant Napear, come on as my special guest.  It was an honor to have a conversation with someone that I've looked up to for years. I would like to once again thank Grant for taking the time to speak with me about a wide range of topics. We had a great conversation about his experiences as an NBA broadcaster, the Sacramento Kings' best days, Klay Thompson's incredible 37-point quarter against the Kings, calling Lebron James' first career game, his interactions with Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade, and more.

I highly recommend checking out Grant's podcast, If You Don't Like That:

Staying Power with (My Dad!) Sportscaster Wesley Ruff! 066

Utah's longest tenured sportscaster just so happens to be my old man! It's was a blast to record with him. He has been named Utah Sportscaster of the Year five times, the Bill Howard Citizen of the Year (an award later renamed after my dad) three times, and has won numerous awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. He has great stories about covering the Utah Jazz, getting stuck in the '92 riots in LA, and a lot of great advice about how to live your dream, and stick with it. My dad is my hero, and we were so grateful to chat with him!

Holly Sonders Former Fox Sports sideline reporter and Golf Channel Host

Holly Sonders born on March 03, 1987, in Marysville, Ohio, in the United States of America. Her father, Dan, was an optometrist and her mother was a retired golf champion, no wonder Holly took a liking to the sport. Growing up, her interest in golf was apparent, and she was soon making a name for herself with her exemplary skills in golf. This performance, in turn, managed to earn her a high school scholarship at Marysville High School. For four years, she held the all-district honour and at the same time got the district MVP and the league honour. The young lady had sports blood in her veins, and also managed to shine in basketball and baseball. She attended Michigan State University for her higher education where she pursued a career in journalism and graduated in 2009. It is important to note that throughout her stay in the university, she was notably one of the grade A students.  She earned herself numerous awards and honours both in her academics and in golf, where she played a total of 77 rounds. Unfortunately, Sanders was not able to go through with her golf career because of incurring an injury during one of the collegiate golf tournaments. You would think this would shatter her, but you are wrong. The rising golfer did not let the damage pull her back. She had a big dream to work as a journalist in the Golf Channel, but sadly did not manage to get the job immediately due to lack of experience. She, therefore, joined Little Rock as a broadcaster and finally landed a job at Golf Channel later on in 2011. Here, she shined brighter than before. The channel brought shows that further elevated her — The Morning Drive, School of Golf and Playing Lessons with The Pros. In 2013, she covered the online portal Golf Digest. Her great job did not go unnoticed, and she earned herself a spot on FOX TV to cover the United States Open in 2015. In 2016, she was the event's studio host. Sonders hot body might have helped her get placed as the world's most beautiful woman by golf.com in the years 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 consecutively.
