The Greatest Villains in Star Wars: Grand Moff Tarkin

The Greatest Villains in Star Wars: Grand Moff Tarkin
Grand Moff Tarkin is only briefly seen in the Star Wars films. But animation, books, and comics reveal a complicated, layered character who is at the same time both sophisticated, and horrific. Grand Moff Tarkin’s impact on Star Wars is hard to truly describe - both in-universe and outside of it.

    But FIRST... HOT TAKES!

The Greatest Villains in Star Wars: Director Krennic

The Greatest Villains in Star Wars: Director Krennic
Director Orson Krennic was a surprising, but welcomed, addition to the stable of Star Wars villains. He’s brash. Overconfident. Witty. A bit annoying. But more than anything, his ambition is both his greatest strength... and his greatest weakness.

Understanding Prophecy Like Qui Gon Jinn
When Qui Gon Jinn first appeared in The Phantom Menace, he introduced Star Wars fans to the concept of The Prophecy of the Chosen One. It’s hard to hear about a virgin birth and a foretold child without thinking of prophecies of another kind. And now that we’ve learned more about both the Jedi prophecies and Qui Gon Jinn, we can also see how to properly live in light of such prophecies.

    But FIRST...

Samuel the Hutt might have to temper his expectations on the reappearance of Boba Fett in The Mandalorian. There’s another Ahoska Tano rumor out there, which begs another question altogether. And George Lucas has said that Star Wars is like poetry - it rhymes. And a recently revealed deleted storyline from The Rise of Skywalker has life imitating art. That’s all next on Hot Takes.

    What Is The Force?

    What Is The Force?
Freddie Prinze Jr. stirred up fandom with his comments about Star Wars and the nature of The Force. We all have our thoughts on what it is and how it works, but what is the official position of Lucasfilm according to StarWars.com? We’ll break it down this week.

Plus, our Hot Takes, some exciting announcements about future guests, and some poll craziness.

Why did an official Star Wars book say that the First Order hasn’t seen Kylo Ren’s face? Sequel Trilogy fans are asking “where’s Rose?” And Kanan Jarrus had some very direct things to say about Star Wars fandom. It’s time for Hot Takes!

Wait, The First Order Hasn’t Seen Kylo Ren’s Face?
    https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2481871/star-wars-wait-the-first-order-hasnt-seen-kylo-rens-face
“Kylo Ren's helmet is designed in the style of the Knights of Ren. It is also reminiscent of the infamous mask of his grandfather, Darth Vader, connecting Kylo Ren to the dark side of his family heritage. The helmet conceals his former identity as Ben Solo (also obscured by the helmet's vocoder which makes his voice sound more threatening), and serves to intimidate both his enemies and his subordinates in the First Order. Beyond this and the protection it affords, the helmet has no special functions.” - Ultimate Star Wars New Edition
What about all those times Hux saw him? Or the others in The Last Jedi?
    Where’s Rose?
    https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2019/10/star-wars-wheres-rose-kelly-marie-tran
A movement of Star Wars fans has taken to sharing the hashtag #WheresRose due to the lack of inclusion of the controversial character in marketing and merch for The Rise of Skywalker. Our friend and previous guest, Anthony Breznican, has a great article about the importance of this character and the concerns about this on Vanity Fair.
There was no official comment from Disney consumer products, but a source close to the matter inside the company told Vanity Fair on background that the division takes the #WheresRose inclusivity concern seriously. Star Wars products draw from thousands of pieces of individual art that are meant to be mixed and matched, the source added, which is why the Rose Tico illustrations sometimes appear with the “Rebel” logo, and sometimes the logo is used on its own.
Are JJ, Lucasfilm and Disney writing Rose out of any prominence in The Rise of Skywalker?
Freddie Prinze Jr. Has Something to Say About The Force and Star Wars Fandom
    https://news.avclub.com/sit-down-shut-up-and-let-freddie-prinze-jr-explain-t-1838958149
Freddie Prinze Jr. became famous as the high school hunk type in She's All That, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and even Scooby-Doo. But he's high-key a massive Star Wars nerd. He voiced tragic hero Kanan Jarrus in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Viewers aren't used to seeing his face in Star Wars movies, but he is very much part of the team -- and he's vocal about canon. Freddie is no casual fan, he will f-bomb shout you down in an epic canon rant, angrily explaining how The Force works and blasting fanfiction bullshit about "Gray Jedi."
"Star Wars is for (expletive) kids," he says, and Freddie Prinze Jr. may have been channeling an R-rated version of George Lucas there. Lucas himself reportedly said Star Wars was a film for 12-year-olds, sharing lessons of friendship, honesty, trust, doing the right thing, living in the light, and avoiding the dark side. But Prinze is very much an adult at 43-years-old and still a huge Star Wars fan. He's as invested as a Star Wars fan gets, dropping truths from George Lucas and dissecting fan theories and complaints.
“I did a Star Wars cartoon so even I get hate from Star Wars fans. But I'm like, look, you're just mad the franchise isn't aging with you. But that ain't how it works. The first one was for (expletive) kids. The second three were for different (expletive) kids and this one is for kids. You're just pissed off Han Solo gave Millennium Falcon to a girl. That's it! Because Luke Skywalker is Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty! He can talk to things that don't speak English, and he understands what they're (expletive) saying, he gets a fairy godfather instead of a fairy godmother, who teaches him how to be the best Jedi in the world in no time (expletive) flat.
What do you think about Freddie’s comments?

AUDIO CORRECTED: Is The Resistance Headed To Bakura?

AUDIO CORRECTED: Is The Resistance Headed To Bakura?
While millions tuned into to get their first glimpse of the Rise of the Resistance ride during Freeform’s Galaxy’s Edge: Adventure Awaits special, many likely missed a quote regarding the legendary planet of Bakura. What could this planet mean for The Rise of Skywalker?

We’ll explain along with our Hot Takes, poll results, and more!

The title of an Expanded Universe novel has been permanently etched into my memory. I remember sitting in the Star Wars section of Waldenbooks multiple times, debating whether or not to purchase it, or another novel that seemed interesting - Heir to the Empire. Eventually, I chose Heir to the Empire. But now, Bakura has reappeared in the minds of Star Wars fans who watched last week’s Galaxy’s Edge: Adventure Awaits special on Freeform. Here we go.

Could everything we think we know about the Force be changing? Could a new character from The Rise of Skywalker have an ancient connection to the Jedi? And is Wedge back in Star Wars? It’s time for Hot Takes!

    What is Project Luminous?
    https://www.starwars.com/news/nycc-2019-project-luminous-details-and-more-revealed-at-the-lucasfilm-publishing-panel
While little is known about Project Luminous, Siglain showed a slide that stated, “The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. Until… PROJECT LUMINOUS, 2020.” He also confirmed the involvement of five all-star authors: Claudia Gray, Justina Ireland, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott, and Charles Soule.
Is There an Ancient Force Connection to Zori Bliss?
    https://www.inverse.com/article/59750-star-wars-9-theories-zorri-bliss-spoilers
    (A) huge clue Zorri’s backstory might be hiding in plain sight. Redditor u/thekoonw theorizes that not only does Zorri’s role in Episode IX mirror that of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, but insists that her costume is etched with the ancient Jedi language. Referred to by Star Wars Rebels’ Ahsoka Tano as the “old tongue,” the ancient Force language has appeared on the Jedi Temple of Lothal and in the Great Temple on Yavin 4.
Though the old language has never been given an official name, it has appeared across several mediums of the Star Wars franchise, most notably in the Rebels animated TV series. The language, which was used by Force users across the galaxy, appears prominently on Jedi temples, but it’s also been seen on the walls of the Sith Temple on Malachor. However, the script is most prominent on Massassi’s Great Temple on Yavin 4, one of the moons orbiting Yavin.
“Look at her costume and zoom in to see some kind of ‘language etched on her… belts?” the theorist writes. “Around her torso and her… golden metallic arm bands. The language looks familiar with the ‘old tongue’ language appeared in Rebels show.”
Star Wars Adds Old Wedge Antilles To Book Cover
    https://screenrant.com/star-wars-resistance-reborn-wedge-antilles-book-cover/
Star Wars seemingly adds old Wedge Antilles to the cover of the upcoming novel Resistance Reborn. The book, which will be published in November, is part of the "Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" line looking to capitalize on the hype and anticipation for this December's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It fills in the gaps between The Last Jedi and Star Wars 9, depicting Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron's first mission together as they work with General Leia to rebuild the Resistance following the Battle of Crait.

    The Force Dyad

    The Force Dyad
There’s a rumor for #TheRiseOfSkywalker going around that gets more and more intriguing the longer you think about it. It includes elements from the Rule of Two, Mortis, and a secret reason behind Order 66. It’s called the “Force Dyad,” and we’re diving into it this week.

Plus, you’ll get our usual Hot Takes and witty banter. And we might just throw in an update on the #MakeTerbusCanon movement!

Every Star Wars saga film has introduced a new Force ability. Visions. Levitation. Force Lightning. And of course, the “Force-time” connection in The Last Jedi. It’s a certainty we will see a new Force ability in The Rise of Skywalker. An interesting set of theories and rumors suggest that the ability we will see in Episode IX has been simmering beneath the surface for the entire series of films. Introducing - the Force Dyad.

    The Emperor's Contingency Fully Revealed?

    The Emperor's Contingency Fully Revealed?
Since the reset of Star Wars canon in 2012, the storytellers at Lucasfilm have been inserting an idea of “The Emperor’s Contigency” within books, games, animation, and more. But a recent set of leaks suggests that this idea is bigger than we could even dream. In this week's episode, we’ll tread carefully through the rumors and speculation.

Since the release of The Force Awakens, Star Wars canon has been peppered with references to Emperor Palpatine’s “Contingency” plans for what would happen should he ever be defeated by his enemies. With the return of Darth Sidious in The Rise of Skywalker, is this contingency going to be fully revealed? A recent set leaks seems to suggest it’s bigger than anything we could imagine.

According to Inverse.com: The Emperor’s evil plan in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is still coming into view, and the latest toy leaks may reveal even more horrifying details. Could this be our first look at the epic space battle coming in Episode IX? A report last week from MakingStarWars.net explained how the new Sith Troopers were actually Palpatine’s secret army, which had been hiding in wait on the edge of the galaxy in a Star Destroyer ship equipped with Death Star-level weaponry.

According to MakingStarWars.net: The Sith Stormtroopers have been hidden away in the unknown regions. It is apparently hellish in those areas. The universe is “not entirely stable.” The area is dangerous and full of peril. Since Emperor Palpatine’s death the fleet has been dodging gravity wells and surviving in the wilderness of space in the unknown regions waiting to be found and to finish their mission. The red Sith Stormtroopers which belong to Palpatine are hidden away inside a massive fleet, probably as a final act so upon his resurrection he could dominate the universe once more. However, the Death Star II wasn’t Palpatine’s last project. These Star Destroyers are equipped with “planet destroying weapons like the one on the Death Star itself.”

According to SWNN: In the Thrawn novel by Timothy Zahn, the Emperor worked with the Chiss Grand Admiral to explore the Unknown Regions of the galaxy in effort to prepare for the future of his Empire. The contingency plan hinged around Palpatine’s view that an Empire that could not protect its Emperor was not worthy to continue. At the Battle of Jakku, the Emperor’s plan proceeded in an attempt to destroy the planet, taking the Empire and its enemies down simultaneously. The remnants of his Empire would eventually be reborn as the First Order. But this is nothing new to fans who have been paying attention. What is new from this rumor, however, is the idea that the Emperor’s plans far exceed what we have seen on screen. Not only is Snoke just a puppet for the true leader of the Order, but the entirety of the First Order that we’ve seen thus far is a mere front, drawing the Resistance’s attention as the true threat, a “Sith Fleet” led by Palpatine himself, prepares for its assault from the Unknown Regions. How the Emperor survived the Death Star II reactor remains a mystery, but if true, this rumor points to a huge confrontation and some truly epic moments in the movie. One of the recently revealed ships from the Star Wars: Armada game from Fantasy Flight Games also catches our eye as a ship that comes close to matching this description (see below). The Onager-class Star Destroyer is an Imperial ship that also took inspiration from the Death Star superlaser, though at this point in the timeline, Imperial engineers probably couldn’t quite give it the same amount of firepower as the moon-sized battle station. Perhaps the Onager class was a precursor to the planet destroying ships mentioned in the rumor for TROS. According to Wookieepedia: The Onager-class Star Destroyer, also known as the Siege Breaker, was an alleged type of capital ship that utilized a kyber crystal superweapon in the capacity of a portable cannon. It was believed to be developed by the Galactic Empire and used kyber crystals powerful enough that could shatter mountains and anything but the strongest energy shields. If the Resistance is going up against firepower of this magnitude in TROS, they’re going to need some substantial firepower of their own. Thankfully, according to the expanded novelization of The Last Jedi by Jason Fry, the Resistance might have just the thing after all, providing there are any of them left….“As the Resistance U-55 orbital loadlifters were being destroyed by the Supremacy after they evacuated from the Raddus, General Leia Organa tried to imagine a miracle where Inferno Squad returned from their mission to find the Resistance’s allies in the Outer Rim Territories with a task force of Starhawks” (The Last Jedi Expanded Edition).

    Hot Takes:

We’re a few days away from the onslaught of Star Wars revelations coming at D23. Why did it take 20 years to build the first Death Star? And could Kylo Ren be nothing less than a Double Agent for the Resistance? It’s time for Hot Takes!

Star Wars Fully Explains Why The Death Star Took 20 Years To Make
    SOURCE: Screenrant.com
Star Wars has fully explained why the Death Star took 20 years to make. The Empire's greatest super-weapon, the Death Star was actually in the works long before Palpatine even officially founded the Empire. The initial plans were recovered from the Separatists in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and the tie-in novel Catalyst revealed that this was a deliberate gambit on Palpatine's part. He was able to argue that the Separatists were presumably working on a Death Star themselves, creating a phantom "arms race" in which the Republic began to secretly construct the first Death Star over the skies of Geonosis. Other canon material including new revelations from Thrawn: Treason reveal that the secrecy behind Project: Stardust along with some less-than-supportive Imperial leadership, a certain scientist’s sabotage, and a number of greedy and treasonous officers contributed to a two decade building process.
Star Wars Fans Think This Line From A New Hope Is Proof Kylo Ren Will Turn Good
    SOURCE: Esquire.com
The "Actually, Kylo Ren Is Good" theory has been bouncing around since The Force Awakens was released in 2015, but it's really getting some renewed traction this summer. Last week, a pretty interesting Reddit post discussed how it could be likely that Kylo Ren was acting as a double agent to infiltrate the First Order and kill the Emperor when he killed his father, Han Solo. It could simply be wishful thinking for anyone still shipping Kylo and Rey. But, considering these new Star Wars movies are mostly remixes of the original ingredients, it's not wrong to expect Episode IX to retread the old Skywalker redemption narrative with Kylo Ren. As one Reddit fan writes: I watched TFA last night and an exchange between Han and Leia reminded me of something. Han says something close to “it's too late for him, he has too much of his grandfather in him.” This is close to the conversation between Owen and Beru when they say “you can’t keep him here forever, he has too much of his father in him.” Owen responds with “I know, that’s what I’m afraid of.”...So obviously Luke never fully gave into the dark side and managed to redeem his father. Even after his struggle in the Last Jedi, it is clear that the Skywalker bloodline course corrects back to the light no matter how strong the pull of the dark is. Since the whole saga is about balance and finding peace in conflict, I think it’s fitting that this would apply to Ben as well. We’ve heard over and over about how IX will end all three trilogies, so why wouldn’t this theme be carried forward as well?
