Death of Clara 3 | Hell Bent

Death of Clara 3 | Hell Bent

Free at last from the confession dial in which he was imprisoned for more than 4 billion years, the Doctor rocks up at a diner in the Nevada Desert armed only with an electric guitar and a story he needs to tell, of a furious Time Lord hell bent on snatching his friend from the very jaws of a tragic and needless death.

The diner's sole employee seems ready to listen to the Doctor's tale of fury and woe, and although she looks familiar to us, sadly he fails to recognise that she's exactly the person he's been looking for to fill the hole in his memories.

Yes, it's CLARA! Geoff's favourite Doctor Who companion!
And the favourite of many others, it seems...

In this episode we conclude our series of podcasts looking into 'The Death of Clara' with an in-depth discussion of the ups and downs of the Series 9 finale: HELL BENT.

    We talk about:

    • Wrong-footing viewers with an unexpected prologue
    • The Hybrid - what the blazes is it?
    • The tragedy of Clara becoming the Doctor
    • Missy's role in all of this
    • Gunships in the desert!
    • Rassilon!
    • Shobogans!
    • The barn!
    • Cloister Wraiths!

    And much, much more...

    PLUS

We hear from other fans who share their thoughts on the story and on Clara's tragic, roller-coaster ride through the canon of Doctor Who!

    Doctor Who Series 8-10 Revisited

The Fake Nerd gang come together to dive deeper on the shows they're watching. This is Fake Nerds Watch!

It's time to travel through space and time with the Doctor! Doctor Who is celebrating 60 years and the Fake Nerds are ecstatic!

In celebration of the 60th anniversary specials, Brandon gathers Sparkz and Xander for a revisiting of modern Doctor Who. For their third discussion, covering the entire series 8-10 run of Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor. They really go all in on a top-tier Doctor. They get into the big ideas for a lot of it, with some focus on smaller details and moments when they can. There's so much to go over here, they'll have to wait a bit longer to get into Jodie Whitaker's time, so this special stays (almost) all Capaldi to celebrate on of the best! Enjoy the trip down memory lane in build-up to discovering the new era!

For their second discussion, they farewell specials for the 10th Doctor, Series 5-7, and the 50th Anniversary specials: Day of the Doctor and Time of the Doctor. Essentially, they say goodbye to 10 and cover all of 11 in this talk. Is that too much, turns out yes as they have quite a lot to say (both good and bad) about the Matt Smith era. They get into the big ideas for a lot of it, with some focus on smaller details and moments when they can. Doctor Who Interview | Chris Chibnall Part 2

Doctor Who Interview | Chris Chibnall Part 2

Let's get FLUXED! We're back in the library (right next to the bar) of a beachside B&B in blistering hot Dorset for Part 2 of our EPIC chat with former Doctor Who showrunner and creator of the 13th Doctor, CHRIS CHIBNALL!

Juiced up on tea, coffee, Coke Zero and water (for Paul because he's sensible) we dive right into the challenges of creating Doctor Who during a pandemic, and for the first time in a public interview Chris talks in great depth about the creation and production of Series 13: Flux.

Just how close did we come to having no Doctor Who at all during Covid?
The behind the scenes story of Flux is an adventure almost as incredible as what we saw on screen.

    But that's not all!
Despite the encroaching heat (and occasional tinkle of glasses and muzak from the bar next door) we also find time to cover plenty more worthy topics of dicsussion and debate, including:

    • More MYRKA!
    • Chris's favourite Classic Season of Who
    • The original plan for Season 13 pre-pandemic
    • Steven Moffatt's text to Chris during Flux
    • Getting SWARM wrong...
    • 'Thasmin' and what the Doctor and Yaz's relationship  journey means to so many fans
    • The Dalek episode we didn't get and the one we did get
    • What did Dan and Yaz do after the Power of the Doctor...

PLUS: we put Chris in the hot seat (literally) and subject him to a game of The Grand Serpent's Asteroid!

We hope you enjoy listening to our interview as much as we did recording it. Chris was incredibly generous with his time and his insight, and yet, after spending the whole afternoon with him, it felt as though there was still so much more that the fans wanted answers to.

So ... with that in mind...

    ...to be continued!!

Doctor Who Interview | Chris Chibnall Part 1

Doctor Who Interview | Chris Chibnall Part 1

On a scorching day at the tail-end of Summer 2023 your intrepid WhoC2C hosts Geoff and Paul climbed into their cars and headed off to the beautiful county of Dorset, to a seaside B&B a mere stone's throw from the locations used in the popular TV crime drama Broadchurch which, as anyone knows, features a cast list as impressive as any Doctor Who spinoff...

However, we weren't interested in the stunning scenery of England's Jurassic Coast! Oh no! We had other things on our minds...

For not only was this session to be the first we'd ever recorded in the same room as each other, but something which we had long been planning and working behind the scenes to make happen was finally about to come together...

We'd booked the B&B's library for the whole afternoon and no sooner had we transformed this tranquil repose into a technology haven littered with strategically-placed mics and recording equipment, than a polite knock at the door announced the arrival of none other than real-life Doctor Who showrunner, CHRIS CHIBNALL!

Anyone who listens to us regularly will know of our mutual love for Jodie's wonderful Doctor and her stories, and now here we were, in the same room as the guy who made it all happen. As you can imagine, having the chance to talk to Chris about some of our favourite Doctor Who of all time was incredibly special and here, in our podcast, we can share with you, our lovely listeners, the entirety of that 3-hour+ interview across two special podcast episodes.

Settle down, because part one is gonna be a helluva ride for all Doctor Who fans as we hear from Chris about:

    • The hope and optimism of the Thirteenth Doctor...
    • Life after handing back the TARDIS keys...
    • Chris's excitement for the future of Doctor Who...
    • Which of his episodes had a  planned sequel that didn't happen...
    • Keeping secrets and surprises in his Doctor Who...
    • Cliffhangers and binge watching...
    • What happens when monsters don't quite work...
    • Bringing back past Doctors for Power of the Doctor...
    • The process of writing and discovery within that...
    • Jodie's magnificent Doctor and her "cinematic clowning"...
    • The Writer's Room...
    • The ITV Showrunner Programme...
    • The unlimited creative framework of Doctor Who...
    • The production decisions behind him taking on Doctor Who...
    • Inclusion and representation in Doctor Who
    • Agatha Christie and Broadchurch...

We hope you enjoy listening to Chris as much as we did talking with him so make sure to jump in on our socials (links below) and join the conversation.

Doctor Who Interview | Rona Munro and James Moran

Doctor Who Interview | Rona Munro and James Moran

Just in time for the release of the latest Doctor Who Target Novels from BBC Books, we're joined by legendary Who writers Rona Munro and James Moran!

Rona's name is familiar to many fans as the writer of the final Classic episode broadcast - Survival. She returned to the show in the Moffat years to write Eaters of Light for the Twelfth Doctor and Bill. This story is the one targeted for novelisation... get it?

James was writing for Torchwood season two when he achieved his dream to write for Doctor Who, and we learn exactly how that came about. The Fires of Pompeii immediately established itself as a firm fan favourite and was vital in Donna Noble's development into the beloved character she became. This story was also targeted... can we use this joke again? No? Ok.

We talk to both writers about their love of Doctor Who, their career beginnings, theatre writing with Rona and short films and features with James. We discuss their scripts in depth, where the ideas came from, what it was like collaborating with the showrunners and we ask what's next for them and what they'd like to do in the Whoniverse in the future...

...plus we are very lucky to be serenaded by James' young daughter during our chat too!

Doctor Who Rewatch | The Eleventh Hour

You voted, we watched - this time it was the Eleventh Doctor's turn!

We picked four of our favourite Eleventh Doctor episodes to rewatch and The Eleventh Hour won the vote!

So we've gone back to the start of Matt Smith's tenure to check out his debut episode in detail.

    • What do we think of it all these years later?
    • What WAS the point of Amy being a kiss-o-gram?
    • What does Geoff think of Rory?!
    • How is this similar, again, to Mission: Impossible 3?
    • Does Jeff bring shame to all Geoffs with his dodgy browser history?

And of course, we finally get onto the question... the one that must never be answered...

Which TARDIS interior is our favourite!?

    Peter Hogan & Bethany Black

    Peter Hogan & Bethany Black

Resident Alien co-creator Peter Hogan and comedian & actor Bethany Black share with us panels from a 1960s comic from a surprising creator, and one of the most fun superheroes of the 2020s. The conversation takes us from Pete Townshend's Eel Pie Island to behind the scenes on Doctor Who via five decades of comics, TV, and music. With additional material by Alan Smithee.

See the images from all episodes here at kevfcomicartist.com (they're also in the episode artwork).

Every episode, the guests reveal a panel from a comic, we try and guess where it's from, then we chat about it. Half an hour later hopefully we've learned something, or just shown off and had fun along the way.

If you've enjoyed this, why not buy us a virtual coffee Kev F's Ko-Fi page.

Your host, and series creator, is Kev F Sutherland, writer and artist for Beano, Marvel, Oink, Viz, and most recently author and artist of graphic novels based on Shakespeare. kevfcomicartist.com

Ben and Mark are joined by artist, model maker and friend of the show Millie McKenzie to bid a fond, melancholic farewell to Peter Capaldi, Steven Moffat and Tom Baker. Is ‘Twice Upon a Time’s meta look at the show’s history from 1963 to 2017 perfect Christmas viewing or one last self-indlugent flourish from a departing writer? And is ‘do the exact opposite of Douglas Adams’ a wise choice for anyone when the result is ‘Logopolis’? Two fine examples of body horror, Ben and Mark discuss Cyber origins by way of 'World Enough and Time'/'The Doctor Falls' and the Big Finish audio 'Spare Parts'. As well as discussing the inevitability of the Cybermen, they also discuss the relatable aspects of the Master's self-destructive downfall. With 'Spare Parts', they ponder how much Big Finish has changed since the show returned in 2005 and how you avoid the pitfalls of "just doing Genesis of the Daleks again".Also: Has Steven Moffat actually written the last ever episode of Doctor Who? Is this just a Greatest Hits collection with a killer new track? Shouldn't it be Donald Trump dead in that chair? And they pair that up with another tale of simulated alien invasion with 1975's 'The Android Invasion', featuring an appreciation of Terry Nation's episode 1s, the best roast dinner Ben's ever had and Kenneth Williams' damning critique of the story. If you like the show, and would like to buy us a pint, you can do so here.
