    1985: Nintendo / Top 5 NES games

    1985: Nintendo / Top 5 NES games

Growing up in the 80's meant you loved video games. Atari and other game systems, along with the pull to the arcade, were all the rage. In 1985 Nintendo came along and changed the game. Pete's choice for this episode is a topic near and dear to us. The NES will always be our favorite game system. In fact, Brad still has his original system and games and anytime we play it is guaranteed to be a good time.

We specifically focused much of our "homework" here to the original Super Mario Bros. game. Can we still save the Princess? To warp or not to warp? What levels are the hardest? We get into it all. We also share our favorite NES games of all time. So blow on your cartridge and play along with us.

    The BG3 Awards

    The BG3 Awards

In this star-studded, red carpet of an episode we dive headfirst into the categories for the 2023 Game Awards... and somehow find a way to give every award to Baldur's Gate 3. I mean, have you played it? It's like really, really good.

Join us in asking this year's smash hits "Who are you wearing?" as we barely contain our excitement to watch a bunch of commercials and "ironically" shout "Take my money!" (ugh)

Games we stew over include Baldur's Gate 3, Resident Evil 4, Alan Wake II, Spider-Man II, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Lies of P, Dave the Diver, Diablo IV, Pikmin 4, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Mortal Kombat 1, Street Fighter 6, and Final Fantasy XVI.

Super Garbage Day - Episode 50: Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES)

Super Garbage Day - Episode 50: Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES)

    Outtakes and Hijinks

    Outtakes and Hijinks

Ten minutes about Tarzan Boy by Baltimora, a 100% Do Not Bring a Ghost Home Policy and the Otis Spunkmeyer cookie hustle. Join us for a mashup of outtakes, hijinks, and other shenanigans.

In this episode, we bring you behind the mic for a collection of audio clips that didn't make it into the first nine episodes. Ridiculous moments happen pretty frequently (spelled without a w) off-air, so we're using our tenth episode as an excuse to share them with you. Expect a bunch of voice-over readings for AI-generated Berries & Blades ads, confirmation that "Willie internet weak," Taylor rant about loud motorcycle speakers, and several intro/outro outtakes. In other words, listen to us be foolish for 58 minutes, lol. Enjoy!

Games briefly mentioned in this episode: Horizon Forbidden West, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Halo, Mario Bros., Halo Infinite, and Ghost of Tsushima.

Here's the full transcript for this episode.

The Wild Story Behind 1993's The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The Wild Story Behind 1993's The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Did you know there was another SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE besides the animated blockbuster with Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, and Fred Armisen? The first SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE hit theaters in 1993 and was the first feature-length live-action film based on a video game. It follows brothers Mario Mario (Bob Hoskins) and Luigi Mario (John Leguizamo) in their quest to rescue Princess Daisy (Samantha Mathis) from a dystopic parallel universe ruled by the ruthless King Koopa (Dennis Hopper), directed by the husband-and-wife team Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel. Unfortunately, it was a box office failure, and critics hated it. The credits list three writers Parker Bennett, Terry Runté, and Ed Solomon.

Why did one MARIO movie succeed when the other MARIO movie didn’t? That’s the big question Sandy and Terry tackle in this episode.

    Fine... China

    Fine... China

Does anyone still keep those fancy floral plates and bowls that you grew up watching collect dust in the China cabinet and MAYBE only get to use them once a year?!  Dave has a hack that could change the way you dine for the rest of your life.  The new Super Mario Bros. movie is less than 3 weeks away and the cast is doing the rounds for interviews, some clips are in today's show.  Also... Fair warning: Tyler is a little salty today.

Bad Video Game Movies, a Ton of Monster Hunter, and Commander Shepard's Nasty Knob

Bad Video Game Movies, a Ton of Monster Hunter, and Commander Shepard's Nasty Knob

An intellectual once said, "To err is human, to complain for a really long time about movies that tried and failed to capture the nature of the games from which they drew inspiration is the height of entertainment." Who was that shining light, whose voice seemingly sprung from the well of unnecessary verbosity and pointless metaphors? The world may never know.

While that quote may never find proper attribution, you can take a break from fancy turns of phrase and enjoy two friends talking about bad video game movies. In preparation for this episode, Zak and Aaron watched "Super Mario Bros.," "Resident Evil," and "Monster Hunter." One of them was pretty good. One of them was so unhinged that enjoyment wasn't even an option — it was always going to happen. The other one occupied the majority of the conversation.

It's up to you to figure out which is which.

They also talk about Mass Effect for a while, and Aaron said that his second least-favorite Star Wars Movie was "The Last Jedi," when in fact, it's "The Rise of Skywalker." So that's neat.
