    C&SI - The Irish Synodal Pathway - An Update with Julianne Moran - 3 Mar 2024 (S04 E15)

On this weeks podcast we welcome Julianne Moran back to speak to John and Shane about the Irish Synodal Pathway and where things stand with it. We have our regular liturgical odds and ends and of course our reflection on the weekly Sunday gospel which this week is John's account of Jesus cleansing the temple in Jerusalem.

    Irish National Synodal Pathway
In March 2021, the Irish Bishops conference announced their intention to be begin the process of having a Synodal Pathway in Ireland which could include a Synodal Assembly in 2026. Then a couple of months later Pope Francis put the proverbial cat among the pigeons by announcing the Universal Synod on Synodality and requiring the input from Catholics around the world.

Julianne Moran is the General Secretary for the Irish Synodal Pathway and she rejoins the podcast this week to set out how the process of responding and engaging with the Synod on Synodality in Rome has provided the tools, ideas and assisted the discernment around the Irish Synodal Pathway and where things are and where they are going over the next 18 - 24 months following on the recommendations of the initial National Steering Committee report and the results from the research conducted on the process of engaging with the Synod on Synodality on the training needs ahead of any Irish Synodal Pathway.

You can find out more about the Irish Synodal Pathway at synod.ie and we highly recommend this video The Synodal Pathway - the journey so far. There are many other resources on the website and a lot of short videos which take you through different aspects of the process to date.

Rome Speaks! Will Germany, and others listen?

Bishop Robert Barron expresses strong disagreement with the Synod's report on development of moral teaching (and hits it out of the park!). And the Vatican issues scathing letter, and strong warnings to the German Cardinals in response to the the [mis]direction of their "Synodal Way".

I also explain why faith in the Church and faith in Jesus go hand-in-hand, and I root all of this in a lesson on the virtues of Patience and Hope. In the final segment I explain why "this is the way"

    Synod Recap!

    Synod Recap!

Synod Recap - Episode 6 of the Catholic Experience podcast. Also available right now on iTunes, Spotify, TuneIn and YouTube- listen the way you want. Description - As the #SynodonSynodality on Synodality wraps up, I take some time to discuss what has come out of it. What I see most prominently, and what I most like, can be summed up in one word: Listening. I think you'll like it too, once I explain it. Nothing shocking or surprising came out of the Synod. So I also take some time to explain that "If we believe in Jesus, we shouldn't be worried about the Synod" Finally I talk about what, if any, has been said and done regarding the hot-button topics that surrounded the #Synod. Observations: The synod restarts a process that will take decades

Observations: The synod restarts a process that will take decades

As the synod of bishops prepares for its sessions on synodality, many people look forward to big changes in the Church. Realistically, however, huge change is unlikely. The synod meetings are just the beginning of a process that will take generations. Father William Grimm  shares some thoughts on this.

At the moment in church circles the great buzzwords are "Synodality" and "Synod". But for the vast majority of Catholics it is not something they are overly familiar with but which could have massive impact on us as a faith community. On this weeks podcast, the C&SI team begin a four part series looking at what it all means, what has been happening and what is next.

Pope Francis has called for the widest and deepest consultation globally, inviting each person to “look others in the eye and listen to what they have to say.” Each Diocese in Ireland engaged in this process of listening and consultation and submissions from each Diocese were returned to the Episcopal conference which in turn was forwarded as the response of the Irish Church to the Holy See.

What will the podcast series cover:

    • Part 1 will give an introduction to the idea of synodality and what the process is to be about. This weeks podcast is a background piece compiling a montage of discussions, video excerpts and interviews where different interlocuters introducing and explaining the concept of Synod and Synodality.
    • Part 2 will explore the diocesan phase in the diocese of Limerick.
    • Part 3 will look at what  the national synthesis was for the Irish church

This episode was done while breaking bread.  Having a conversation while eating dinner is a great way to talk and listen.
Tony and I had great conversation with Fr Alex Rodarte, Kimberly Puerto, Bethany Faz, and Maria Recio.  Pizza and drinks brings out the best discussion.
So sit back and listen to our banter about the synod and more.

On this weeks podcast we have the third of three podcasts where we share with our listeners a series of talks from Knock Shrine about Synod on Synodality being held in Rome in 2023.

As usual, we have our liturgical odds and ends, some local notices and of course our reflection on the Sunday gospel (Luke 6:39-45).

    Synod on Synodality 2023
On the podcast, we covered the Synod on Synodality in a podcast on 24th October 2021. The Synod meeting in 2023 has been convened by Pope Francis and the local diocesan phase is currently taking place in dioceses around the world.
