EP #71 Using NLP as a System for Weight Loss (or other goals)

NLP contains many powerful concepts and techniques that can be transformative on their own, but when utilized as an entire system, NLP can make change almost effortless and sustainable. When we try to change something about ourselves or our actions simply through willpower, we often find it difficult to create and maintain motivation, develop and follow a successful strategy, overcome setbacks and obstacles, align our beliefs, values, identity, and thinking processes with the change we want, and tap into resources we already have that will help us to make and maintain the desired change. Using NLP as a system gives us the ability to do those things and create a desired change more easily, quickly, and sustainably.

    Key Discussion Concepts:

Intention (I think of this as well-formed "outcome light," because it hits the main points of a well-formed outcome.

E.34 - Permaculture Your Life with Morag Gamble

E.34 - Permaculture Your Life with Morag Gamble
In this podcast we talk to Morag Gamble who lives in a permaculture village near Maleny in the subtropical part of southeast Queensland, Australia.

Morag explains that Permaculture is a One Planet way of life in each of our contexts, and in each of our communities.

Morag talks about how permaculture has been a part of her life since her teen years. She says that permaculture is a practical way to live life in balance with ourselves, our communities, and our ecosystems. It is a way of approaching life.

We talk about permaculture in the context of producing food but also in the context of education and life in general. Basically, we can permaculture our lives.

Permaculture is a system approach where all the elements are considered as part of the whole, however, this does not mean that we need to understand the whole system before we interact with it or try to make changes, but we need to take steps in the direction of our curiosity and our interest and then observe and interact based on the steps we’ve taken and then creatively use and adapt to change. Find what makes your heart sing and go for simple and slow solutions.

Permaculture is an invitation to live regeneratively rather than with the consumer-based mind frame.

Morag shares Fritjof Capra's teaching that life is a learning system always adapting to its environment. Everything is in relation to everything else. We need to start from here.

We also talk about how permaculture is being used by the youth. There is much negative news about the state of the world and in many cases, these issues are ignored and not addressed because of a lack of power to make any changes. However, this creates anxiety in the youth. On the other hand, permaculture provides tools to be able to address these issues and empower young people to take action. The youth want to tackle the problems now, not when they have such and such degree. The issues are now and the youth still have the creativity to come up with solutions that adults could not think of due to being stuck in our ways.

Morag shares with us a tip to start designing our lives towards the way we want to live and it is to create a mind map of what we envision and she encourages us to do these mind maps with other people that know us so they can see where we are heading and they can help us get there.

Greatness Podcast (Ep. 27) | Anne Murray Allen Discusses How The Nature Conservancy Took a Systems Approach To Solving A Complex Challenge.

How do you effectively engage a system of stakeholders for an extraordinary outcome? How do you create a “system of human connectedness” versus “disjointed simultaneous monologues”? Anne Murray Allen of Conversant joined the Greatness Podcast to discuss how The Nature Conservancy took a systems approach in addressing water quality on the Mississippi River. Key to their success was framing the issue in a manner that united the various stakeholders along the river to build community and co-create innovative solutions that met their unique needs. This is a great story of success in changing the way people accomplish work and creating a system of learning to achieve a “moon shot”
