We're back!! Happy Holidays from 808's and Cold Takes!

Today, we wrap up our final thoughts on all things music in 2022. We'll be discussing our favorite albums, least favorite albums, favorite songs, favorite features, and overall opinions on the music that came out this year.

Hey guys its Maxx from 808's, you guys may have noticed that we have been on kind of a hiatus. Life got busy for all 3 of us and we are working on ideas to better expand the brand and the show. We have very big things coming very soon. 

Just know that Carlos, Brayden, and I appreciate everyone who is waiting for new content and we thank you all for the patience while we go through this process to make the best possible content. 

Our plan is to return in December with a new look, new friends and new guests, and new ideas. Until then, stay safe and we look forward to the future of this amazing show.

Kendrick Lamar is finally back!! After years of anticipation, hip hop’s most beloved and respected emcee has finally returned for a brand new album. 

Announced as his last release under Top Dawg Entertainment, “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” is a 73 minute long double-album that features artists from the likes of Sampha, Summer Walker, Baby Keem, Beth Gibbons, Kodak Black, Ghostface Killah, & actress Taylour Paige.

Over the last few years, Jack Harlow has transitioned from another bubbling internet rapper with a Cole Bennett video to a chart-topping celebrity heartthrob. With the success of a crucial feature spot on Lil Nas X’s smash hit “INDUSTRY BABY” and now his own Number 1 hit with “First Class”, Jack’s music has gone through a huge major label transition from his older mixtape days. His 2022 album, "Come Home The Kids Miss You", includes some of the biggest names in music such as, Drake, Pharell Williams, Lil Wayne, Justin Timberlake, and even features a cameo from none other than Snoop Dogg.

Atlanta trap legend Future Hndrxx is back with another full length LP, "I NEVER LIKED YOU"! Fivio Foreign’s long awaited debut album under Columbia Records, “B.I.B.L.E.” (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth), has finally arrived. Executively produced by Kanye West, the anticipation for this album saw a massive boost after Fivio’s celebrated feature on Kanye’s “Off the Grid”. The album features notable artists from the likes of KayCyy, Quavo, Alicia Keys, Lil Yachty, Queen Naija, Coi Leray, Ne-Yo, Polo G, and many more.

“Melt My Eyez See Your Future'' is Denzel Curry’s fifth studio album and his first project to release since his “UNLOCKED” collaboration with Kenny Beats. What started out as an idea between J. Cole and his team back in the early days of his career, Dreamville Records has become one of the biggest hip hop record labels/supergroups in the music industry.

While the label has been distributed through Interscope since 2014, and was founded all the back in 2007, it wasn’t until 2019 when the world started to actually recognize what they were capable of with “Revenge of the Dreamers III”. Critically acclaimed and beloved by rap fans from all regions, this album single-handedly shot Dreamville all the way up to being one of hottest rap labels in the game. 

Just in time for their annual festival in Cole’s home state of North Carolina, Dreamville has returned with a Gangsta Grillz themed mixtape, called “D-Day”. Scaling it back with the features this time around, “D-Day” is a much more raw offering from the supergroup.

Lil Durk is back once again with one of his most personal albums yet: “7220”. Named after his grandmother’s home address, “7220” explores the hardships and challenges of Durk's rough upbringing in one of America’s most dangerous cities: Chicago, Illinois. 

Shortly after it’s initial release, the NBA Youngboy diss track “Computer Murderers” was added to the deluxe version. Over the course of the album’s 18 tracks, the album contains guest appearances from Future, Gunna, Summer Walker, and country star Morgan Wallen.

The world famous Japanese fashion designer Tomoaki Nagao (a.k.a. Nigo) has many successful ventures in pushing pop culture. In the musical world, he is the founding member of the Teriyaki Boyz group (best known for their international hit “Tokyo Drift”), and has collaborated his DJ/production skills alongside hip hop legends such as Kanye West & Pharrell Williams. 

However, outside of music, Nigo’s biggest successes were in his business ventures. Creating the Billionaire Boys Club and A Bathing Ape (Bape) clothing lines, Nigo’s fashion designs were what really cemented his name into history as a modern fashion culture icon. 

In 2022, we are seeing Nigo return to the musical scene. Taking more of a curator approach, similar to DJ Khaled, Nigo has amassed some of mainstream hip hop’s best talents (Pharrell Williams, Tyler the Creator, A$AP Rocky, Gunna, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Lil Uzi Vert, A$AP Ferg, Pop Smoke, etc) as well as brought back legendary groups out of retirement (Teriyaki Boyz, Clipse).

Benny the Butcher is a critically acclaimed & well respected rapper from Buffalo, New York and one of the biggest names affiliated with the hip hop supergroup known as Griselda. Alongside Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine, Benny the Butcher and Griselda Records are bringing back a side of East Coast rap that the industry hasn’t seen since the days of Pro Era and the Beast Coast movement.    

Having multiple critically acclaimed albums under his belt, Benny’s newest release features heavyweights such as J. Cole & Diddy, but also shines some spotlight on familiar Griselda affiliates such as Stove God Cooks, Boldly James, & 38 Spesh.

Conway the Machine is a critically acclaimed & well respected rapper from Buffalo, New York and one of the biggest names affiliated with the hip hop supergroup known as Griselda. Alongside Westside Gunn and Benny the Butcher, Conway and Griselda Records are bringing back a side of East Coast rap that the industry hasn’t seen since the days of Pro Era and the Beast Coast movement.
