LIVE Q&A SERIES // How can we teach kids to make good choices? It's actually our super power tool...

When mistakes are judged, shamed and connected to child’s worth + belonging (conditional teaching):

✔️Kids learn to feel shame when they naturally struggle
✔️Kids learn that conflict is binary: good/bad, right/wrong
✔️Kids hold in their feelings + needs out of fear of shame
✔️Kids are more likely to lie, blame, + defend to feel safe

When mistakes neutrally explored and NOT connected to child’s worth + belonging (unconditional teaching):

✨Kids learn to feel safe when they struggle and grow
✨Kids learn that conflict can be a safe place to learn
✨Kids learn their + others’ needs + feelings matter
✨Kids are more likely to communicate, empathize + innovate

Gah! We’re all trying to give ourselves grace, patience and love for all the “messing up” we’re doing as adults + parents. ✨Can we try to extend those same things to our kids as they learn and grow, too?

Rather than instinctually repeating the inherited phrasing that was passed down to us from generations before, we give you permission to lean into your kids’ learning moments with the very skills you hope to teach them: curiosity, empathy, humor + innovation — a concerted effort to focus on the NEEDS vs the BEHAVIORS.

LIVE Q&A SERIES // Parenting Beyond Power with Jen Lumanlan of Your Parenting Mojo

    From Jen:

Parenting is hard. But when we replace conventional parent-child power dynamics with collaboration, family life gets easier today—and we create a better world for all of us in the future. When our children are stalling, resisting, tantrumming, using mean words, and hitting, we want to make it stop.  But discipline methods like time-outs, countdowns, and 'consequences' teach children that it's OK for more powerful people to control others.

Research-based parenting educator Jen Lumanlan offers a simple yet revolutionary framework for rethinking our relationships with children.  We can learn to look beneath challenging behaviors to find and meet children's needs, and ours too - perhaps for the first time in our lives.  This approach helps us to find solutions to conflicts that work for everyone - in our families, and in the wider world.

Laugh, Learn, Love: My Top 10 Episodes of the Crazy Final Voyage of True Family Vibes

Laugh, Learn, Love: My Top 10 Episodes of the Crazy Final Voyage of True Family Vibes

On behalf of Diversifying Podcast platforms... we wrap up the True Family Vibes podcast with a  hilarious trip down memory lane where we examine the ups, downs, and unexpected poos of parenting. Remember that Disney movie you loved as a kid? It probably had a sorrowful theme and we're talking about how it sparked conversations with our children about life and loss. And who can forget the episode where I had to defend my bum from another child? These memorable moments have not only entertained us, but have also shaped our future as parents.

Brace yourself for an honest look at the messy yet endearing journey of motherhood. The tantrums, the stains on the carpet, the laughter, and those unforgettable moments when an unexpected poo makes your day, or rather ruins it. Remember when I shared the issues of raising a vegan climate change generation, convinced that there is no meat in their sausages? We're revisiting all of these precious memories and more.

As we bid farewell to our beloved podcast, we can't help but feel a sense of anticipation for what the future holds. We're wrapping up this chapter with a contemplative look at Our top 10 episodes that sum up this season and the many topics we've discussed over the last 2 years. Our concluding episode is a tribute to all the laughter, lessons, and love that our podcast community has shared. We're signing off, but the journey doesn't end here, it's just taking a different road.

Hope you enjoy this random episode

Ep 104: The Explosive Child w/ Kim Hopkins LCSW

Are you a parent who too often struggles with your child's behavior? Are you looking for guidance?

On today’s podcast we will review a book called “The Explosive Child” by Dr Ross Greene, to help parents with children who tend to be easily frustrated and inflexible.  This book gives an optimistic perspective on behaviorally challenging children, and it also offers a valuable, step by step approach, which they call "CPS", to help parents. Today's podcast is joined by licensed clinical social worker Kim Hopkins, who works alongside the book’s author, Dr Greene, to review the book as well as the "CPS" approach.

Ms. Hopkins is an independently licensed clinical social worker who has specialized in working with behaviorally challenging kids for more than 25 years.  She has managed the clinical departments of two organizations serving youth and families in residential facilities, foster homes, therapeutic day schools, and homeless shelters.  She has been a Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) Trainer since 2007 helping schools, residentials, hospitals, and parents to successfully implement the CPS Model.  Ms. Hopkins is also the Director of Outreach & Communication for Dr. Ross Greene’s non-profit, Lives in the Balance.

Dr Jessica Hochman is a board certified pediatrician, mom to three children, and she is very passionate about the health and well being of children. Most of her educational videos are targeted towards general pediatric topics and presented in an easy to understand manner.

    69. STICK TO YOUR NO!!! HOW TO KEEP CONSISTENT BOUNDARIES

    69. STICK TO YOUR NO!!! HOW TO KEEP CONSISTENT BOUNDARIES

Do you give in sometimes just to avoid a tantrum?

We've all been there. It can be exhausting and sometimes we don't have the energy to get into a battlefield with our littles. But we want to remind you of the importance and all the benefits of keeping consistent boundaries.

In this week's episode we will discuss:

    1. WHY HAVE CONSISTENT BOUNDARIES?
    2. WHAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN WE DO NOT STICK TO OUR “NO”
    3. HOW TO STAY STRONG IN OUR NO, TO CREATE BOUNDARIES THAT SUPPORT OUR CHILD’S BEST INTERESTS AND DEVELOPMENT

It can make our job as parents easier and allow our littles to flourish. Creating clear and consistent boundaries improves our kid's self-esteem and decreases their anxiety.

We may have been raised with parents who said "because I said no" and that was the end of that conversation....

The problem with not having clear boundaries is that our kids will give us more pushback, they will be confused and constantly question what they should be doing because of a lack of consistency which induces anxiety that will come out in crying, yelling, and full-blown tantrums.

Boundaries are as simple as sitting at the table during dinner time, drawing on paper, not walls, or no sweets before dinner. These small things set our littles up for success if we remain consistent with them.

BUT you do not have to be too rigid. Allow for wiggle space as sometimes you can enjoy a sweet on a hot summer day. This makes it extra fun for you and your littles!

The goal is to make this journey more enjoyable so we want to remind you that with some extra work, it is possible!
