EPISODE 38: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN 9.22.22

    THE GODFATHER: PART TRUMP

A-Block (1:46) SPECIAL COMMENT: Remember the baptism scene in "The Godfather"? Where Michael has everybody whacked? Metaphorically, that was Trump's Wednesday - only he was ALL 10 GUYS WHO GOT WHACKED. His Appeals Court appointees let the DOJ resume its investigation, declare declassification irrelevant (4:02) Trump replies to Spokesmodel Sean Hannity that he could declassify documents just "by thinking about it" - BLINK ONE FOR CLASSIFIED, BLINK TWO FOR DECLASSIFIED. But the judges just said declassification is a red herring. (5:30) NY AG James' lawsuit may hurt Trump more personally because he's accused of not being THAT rich, and needing to be THAT rich is perhaps Trump's only human emotion (7:30) Two other court cases for Trump (7:52) and maybe one coming for Ron DeSantis (8:40) And Trump Endorsee J.R. Majewski grabs what used to be the Third Rail of Politics: Lying about your military service. He didn't fight in Afghanistan; he loaded cargo in Qatar. We'll hear him recount his ordeal in Afghanistan that he didn't have.

B-Block (14:31) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Koley (15:34) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: The Electoral Count Act, McCarthy Suffers Premature Jocularity, Tucker Carlson slanders the wrong Ontario teacher, the World Bank boss is a climate crisis denier, and Contagious Defenestration continues even as Russia destabilizes (18:31) IN SPORTS: Buster Posey becomes management, Dayton Moore becomes ex-management, and why Aaron Judge's 60 Homers are not comparable to Babe Ruth's 60 Homers (like McGwire's 70 Homers were not comparable to Ruth's 60) (22:41) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Politicians walk out of Greg Norman's pitch for the Saudi Blood Money Golf Tour and he competes with Ted Cruz and the NBA for the honors.

C-Block (27:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Sunday it'll be 16 years since a guy sent me, at my home, an envelope he claimed was full of anthrax. What happened next, including The New York Post getting vengeance against me by printing a story that identified the real culprit of the anthrax story: Me.

    The Godfather | Ep 9
We’ve made an episode you can’t refuse, so listen this month as we discuss The Godfather, the 1972 film that may have single-handedly saved the film industry. Big T and Austin talk about our favorite moments, which actor refused to memorize their lines, and how exactly someone can get shot 400 times and still get out of a car. We explore the impact this movie has had on pop culture and answer the burning question: who exactly is the title referring to? So, tune in this month then join us in June when we talk about the 2014 biographical drama Big Eyes. And don’t worry, if you can’t listen, we won’t put a horse head in your bed—probably. Back Through The Basement Episode 56 - NCC-1701 and Trivial Pursuit

Back Through The Basement Episode 56 - NCC-1701 and Trivial Pursuit

Tom and Julee cover aaaaaa lot of ground in this episode.  They start out with a bit on candy, then they slip into a handful of ON POINT impressions, Tom talks some major Star Trek, new game points are flying around and the oh-so-80s Trivial Pursuit is unearthed and launches a new set of in-show BTTB games and you can play along!  It’s a good time!

Now in their forties, Julee and Tom Antonellis are reconnecting as brother and sister in THE MOST distant a socially-distant podcast can be in the United States.  While recording on each coast (and seeing each other over FaceTime) all the way from Los Angeles (Tom) to Boston (Julee), they start unearthing the core lessons, laughs and connections of their childhood.  Plus, Julee has to fight her fear of cobwebs while Tom enjoys the comfort of his office -- yet he CAN'T touch his beloved toys like she can.

As their Instagram bio indicates --  @backthroughthebasementpod   -- you can follow them there to see pictures of everything they unearth -- Tom & Julee (actors, comics, voiceover artists & siblings), children of the 80s, must go through all their toys and belongings in their parents’ basement. Oh boy!

Insights Into Entertainment: Episode 139 “A Whole New Show”

When we started this podcast it was originally meant to be a deep dive into selected entertainment news and pop culture information that being die hard fans of a number of key areas of these topics we thought we could lend some unique perspective on.

Over the course over 130 episodes we drifted away from that more to a reporting on current news and events with a little commentary mixed in. We’re hoping to get back to our original purpose starting with this episode.  We’ll highlight a couple of significant events in the entertainment and pop culture worlds more from a deep dive and less from a reporting perspective

In today’s episode we’re taking a look at some interesting finds from the Disney Animation Research Library.  Then we’ll digest some of the feedback from the opening of the Galactic Starcruiser experience at Disney World. We’ll also mark the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic film franchises in movie history before we take a peek at our experience at Nerd Fest this past weekend.
