Bio

Khoo Hsu Chuang is a financial journalist with over two decades of experience. He’s worked in KL, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong and London covering financial and capital markets for The Edge, Bloomberg and Thomson-Reuters in print, newswire, Internet and digital TV broadcast formats. Chuang has spent the last decade grilling CEOs, policymakers, academics and politicians as a co-host of The Morning Run on BFM 89.9, a business and finance-oriented radio station and as a Contributing Editor and Video Presenter with The Edge Media Group in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. La pandemia es el acontecimiento que mayor influencia ha ejercido en la historia reciente y por obvias razones no solo ha condicionado nuestro presente sino que también, muchísimo peor, está determinando nuestro futuro. No es que sea el tema de moda, es que simplemente es el fundamento social por el cual se están desarrollando profundas transformaciones de las que queramos o no, ya somos parte. No tener como referente esta pandemia es como esperar que durante los años más crudos de la Segunda Guerra Mundial las personas no conversaran o no lo encontraran a diario en los periódicos y radio noticias de la época, por supuesto es impensable. Mi punto hoy, es que algunas cosas simplemente no encajan, hay cabos sueltos que no termino de ajustar. Este puzzle es gigante y no pretendo resolverlo yo solo, de hecho, creo que nadie puede, pero como un ciudadano normal con un poco de curiosidad  solo me he dedicado a tratar de encontrar respuestas a algunas preguntas que por demás pueden parecer incómodas, sobre todo, allí donde aparecen las coincidencias.

This episode marks one whole year of the Self Care 101 podcast’s existence. It’s also my 40th birthday this week. And we’re in a global pandemic with the biggest financial crisis since the great depression.

I have my health, loved ones, some stability with work and many many dreams. 

I think that’s the most important bit right there, the dreams!

If you think about it, without dreaming, we really are just machines. Living to work rather than working to live.

Don’t know about you but whenever it’s my birthday, I spend about a month of the lead up (especially when it’s a milestone one) reflecting on the year gone by.

Sometimes this is filled with lots of happy moments, other times much deeper reflection of where I am and who I am now.

This year has obviously been even more different but I’ll tell you something for nothing, dreaming and dreaming big is a game-changer.

After all, goals are just dreams with deadlines.

In this episode, I’m going to talk to the dreamers about how to live a more fulfilling life.

In this episode we document how, during the Covid-19 pandemic, governments have progressively taken away the civil liberties of their citizens. After giving examples of 'the selective rescue technique' and the implementation of the 'shock doctrine', we discuss how governments and law enforcement have systematically sought to close churches, even preventing so-called drive-in services that respected physical distancing rules. We explore how (shockingly) in Canada the citizens do not have the basic human rights that they believe they have. The main thesis in this episode is that rather than passively submitting to governmental overreach, Christians and liberty-loving people in so-called 'democratic societies' must push back against government overreach to recover and retain their pre-pandemic civil liberties. This principled pushback is an important way in which Christians can show love for their neighbours.
