On today’s episode I head up to East Harlem for a chat with Jasmine Guadalupe, founder of The Hood Hikers, a hiking and outdoor adventure company based right here in NYC! The Hood Hikers creates a safe space in nature for all Black and Brown folks, regardless of gender, income bracket or any other divider. While everyone is welcome on her hikes, the Black and Brown experience is at the core, allowing participants to enjoy the outdoors on their own terms.
A self-described “Bronx-bred, 80s baby of Puerto Rican descent,” Jasmine was blessed with being able to escape the bustle of the big city as a kid, spending many summers upstate, exploring the woods of her grandparent’s property in central New York. Fast forward through law school and a demanding schedule as a litigation attorney, she was re-introduced to her love of hiking in April 2020, during the early days of the pandemic. Those first outdoor adventures were so therapeutic for her, she knew she needed to help her fellow city-dwellers overcome the obstacles of getting out into nature too, so she got her Guide License and boom, The Hood Hikers was born.
Through the magic of social media (and having some hikers in common), we’d been following each other for a while, but this was Jasmine and my first meeting IRL! And while we were gonna go out for a walk together, the weather proved inhospitable, so we simply switched gears and recorded at Jasmine’s apartment instead. Thankfully, one thing us New York based guides know how to do well is pivot!

Shujat Ali Khan, is the grandson of legendary classical singer Ustad Salamat Ali Khan and son of leading contemporary classical maestro the late Sharafat Ali Khan and nephew of Ustad Sahfqat Ali Khan. London based music producer NaamLess spent years learning his craft from none other than Rishi Rich. He has in a short span of time became one of the 'must use' producers and has worked with a huge array of artists in his studio The Heights. Recent clients include Abbas Hasan, Kiran Dhanoa, Navin Kundra and the superstar Yo Yo Honey Singh. He also recently topped the charts with his own album The Heights EP.
In the wake of community outrage over an idea pitched by the Lakeland Economic Development Council that included the possibility of developing the land that is currently the Cleveland Heights municipal golf course, we decided to start the conversation with the man in charge of it all. Bob Donahay, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Lakeland shares his insight into the history of the course, the challenges, the opportunities and how the future of the course can effect Lakeland for years to come. Regardless of what comes of The Heights down the road, one thing is for sure. Bob Donahay, a.k.a. Lakeland's very own "Ron Swanson," has spent a lifetime of making Lakeland's parks the best they can be.
People probably remember Jamie Walters more for his role on 90210, but whether or not they realize it, they know him more for his 92 hit from the fake-band from the real show The Heights. His singing is exhausting to impersonate. They may not actually know any real characteristics of angels. This song is still excellent....just excellent garbage music that you will hear wandering down the aisle's of most grocery stores
