THE CLOVEHITCH KILLER & THE INNOCENTS: Episode 129: If You Can Hear Me, I Love You

WoHos! The theme this time is "Loss of Innocence". We reviewed THE CLOVEHITCH KILLER from the US & THE INNOCENTS from Norway.

We enjoyed the exploration of the distance that grows between a child and parent during adolescence in THE CLOVEHITCH KILLER. Everyone can relate to that feeling, but thankfully only a few will ever know the horrifying reality our protag Tyler feels in THE CLOVEHITCH KILLER.

In THE INNOCENTS the inherent powerlessness is what is examined in a world where children suddenly discover they have spernatural powers. CW: Cat harm and cat death--also kid harm and kid death--also parent harm and parent death.

Also surprise spoiler for THE DEN at

We had a good discussion about some missteps the directors take, the use and misuse of does the dog die website, the depiction of a character with nonverbal autism and whether or not this depiction was problematic,

Mac, Quinn, and I have all been sick this season. It's Q's turn currently, but when she is better, we will do a Quinnisode on maybe my all-time favorite movie? FARGO.

Next on the main show we will be looking at movies involving mental illness with JACOB'S LADDER from the US & THE BABADOOK from Australia.

If you are enjoying the show, please get in touch and tell all your friends all about us.

    Stay healthy, our WoHos!
And remember: We love you and DON'T go into the basement!!

Episode 184: 'Dawn Breaks Behind the Eyes' (2022)/'What Josiah Saw' (2022)

Episode 184: 'Dawn Breaks Behind the Eyes' (2022)/'What Josiah Saw' (2022)

Last week, Regina suggested we talk about the then upcoming Prey to start the show. At the time, it did not feel it would be worth our time. This week we open the show by talking about...Prey. We discuss where it stands in the Predator franchise and how it handled the iconic alien. We also talk about some Shudder releases for August and take the opportunity to talk about The Cursed.

Dawn Breaks Behind the Eyes is a love letter to a very specific type of moving. Harkening back to European horror movies of the 1960s and 70s, the film will appeal fans of a very particular type of cinema. The question becomes does it have enough for mainstream audiences? Especially when it features an Agnes-like twist. Intentionally choosing style over substance can work, but are the filmmakers able to pull it off here.

What Josiah Saw has a lot of the elements that we enjoy. Its Southern gothic setting and atmosphere is not something you see a lot of while its story unwinds like a book. It has the scares expected from a Shudder film, but also has strong characters. The story it tells is tragic, but its unique narrative structure is risky and compelling.

So, what made it such a hard film to talk about? We were upset, frustrated, and disappointed by the ending. Some of us were trying to justify and make excuses while others just wanted to write the whole thing off entirely. We have a spoiler free discussion about the ending and debate whether it ruined the film or was the right way to end the story.

Yeah yeah, we know. We saw too much, for real this time. Between the two of us we've probably seen every film and tv show this fortnight, which is regrettable as we now have to talk about them and review them. I think we can all agree this is just too much content baby, I'm not even going to write here what we've seen as it's too much. Check it out in the title, it's the same as listed there.

Episode 171: Mommy Issues Month: 'Blood Red Sky' (2021)/'The Innocents' (2022)

Episode 171: Mommy Issues Month: 'Blood Red Sky' (2021)/'The Innocents' (2022)

The FANGORIA Chainsaw Awards return to Shudder this weekend and as expected, the nominees are an exciting bunch. 2021 was a good year for horror fans and we reminiscence over what we liked best. One us surprises even themselves with a best picture selection, we talk about a polarizing debut, and Danny talks about a movie he has never seen before.

The Innocents does not sound like it is going to be anything special. A group of kids discover they have powers. This starts out as good clean fun before quickly becoming something more sinister. The Norwegian film subverts expectations by telling a much deeper film than expected. We also talk about the drudgery of Norway and argue over whether calling it an X-Men story is too reductive.

Netflix has become a giant in the movie industry. They are such a fixture at awards shows that sometimes it is hard to forget how much content they pump out. Despite its success, Blood Red Sky ended up being forgotten rather quickly. The movie combines vampires, hijackers, and an annoying kid and gives audiences a movie they never asked for. But that does not mean they did not need it.

#44 1/2 - Fantasy Film Fest Nights 2022, Morbius, The Dark and the Wicked & The Innocents

#44 1/2 - Fantasy Film Fest Nights 2022, Morbius, The Dark and the Wicked & The Innocents
Unangenehm…! Morbius *hust*.

Fantasy Film Fest Nights – Podcast

Naja… mehr hatte The Innocents da so bieten.

    Filmtoast Fokus: The Innocents

    Filmtoast Fokus: The Innocents

    Mal verspielt, mal melancholisch
