    Debts-cember 2023 Part 2 - 8 Lazy Nights IV

Welcome to the Merry Month of Debts-cember!

Part 2 - 8 Lazy Nights IV - On this week's show, because I just didn't have it in me to pull off another extended show, we're dialing it back with one of our shortest episodes of the year! 8 songs (one for each night of Chanukah) plus a bonus track to represent the starter candle.

All this & much, much less!

Debts No Honest Man Can Pay is over 2 rock-solid hours of musical eclectica & other noodle stories. The show started in 2003 at WHFR-FM (Dearborn, MI), moved to WGWG-FM (Boiling Springs, NC) in 2006 & Plaza Midwood Community Radio (Charlotte, NC) in 2012, with a brief pit-stop at WLFM-FM (Appleton, WI) in 2004.

Welcome to the Merry Month of Debts-cember!

Part 1 - Top 10 Albums of 2023 - On this week's show, we spend quality time with the records that sparked joy, inspired us to get out of bed, face the day & conquer the world while the world continued to rage on like an unholy dumpster fire.

All this & much, much less!

    Short Blast, Vol. 1

    Short Blast, Vol. 1

On this week's show, we present our first Short Blast episode - a fistful of new/newish tracks we're digging, bookended by a pair of ridiculously short songs.

    Bellyballs (Ph.D) With Terence Hartnett

    Bellyballs (Ph.D) With Terence Hartnett

Content Warning: We talk about cancer... a lot

We hear you, you want us to talk to scientists, you want us to speak with intellectuals, you're dying for discourse between scholars.  Well, here's our friend Terence Hartnett.  We won't spoil much, because this episode slaps, but Terence has/had cancer and is making a documentary, and you can fund it here.  Balls big?  Get 'em checked!  Gucci is short for Tucci, because no one is slicker than Stanley.  The beef voice.  Grandpas can have one ball too.  We take a lot of liberties with a Blur song.

Welcome to an all-new Films for the Void, Bonus Episode #6! In this episode, Landon interviews Poppy Morowa - the guitarist and vocalist for Metro Detroit based indie-punk band Boyfrienders, alongside fellow members Celeste Jones, Matthew Stonebraker, and Evan Laybourn. After putting out their debut record Midwest Alive in Nightmares last year on Good Luck Charm Records, the band is back into gig mode, with upcoming appearances at DIY Burning Man 2 in Grass Lake, MI on July 1 and Fauxchella V at Howards Club H in Bowling Green, OH on July 16. John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats on Anxiety, Violence, Drugs, Youth in Peril, and TikTok

John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats on Anxiety, Violence, Drugs, Youth in Peril, and TikTok

The singer, songwriter, guitarist, and acclaimed author John Darnielle is one of the more prolific creative forces you’re likely to run across. He’s released 20 full-length studio albums, plus a mess of EPs, tapes, and singles over his 25-plus years of recording. And he’s written three novels in recent years as well.

In this interview, John talks about his interest in written material about violence and horror and what he thinks might be behind society’s stronger than ever fascination with true crime. We also hear about his experiences on drugs, his need to get off drugs to avoid going to prison, and his modern relationship with wine at parties, which has a connection to his lifelong relationship with anxiety.

Learn about a nervous party experience with John Hodgman and why he also makes sure to have lunch with John Hodgman at every opportunity, even if he has a full schedule. Yep, John Darnielle, in conversation with John Moe, talks about John Hodgman. So many Johns. It’s a Johnslaught. They form a Johntourage.
