#264 - Our Initial Thoughts on the Moonstone News

#264 - Our Initial Thoughts on the Moonstone News

No your eyes do not deceive you - It is a shorter podcast than most.

Jermayn Parker and Dan Fraser join to quickly discuss the news about Moonstone publishing new Phantom comics from the first half of 2024. You can read our initial report here.

Like you, we have questions, heaps of questions. So we go over our own questions plus recap what we do know.

We go over our initial responses plus why this is important news. We discuss the state of new Phantom stories release from USA since Moonstone lost the license 10 years ago and how it all coincides with the TV show in development, the new video game and how the NECA figurines was popular with high in demand sales.

What we do know about the new series is:

    • The stories will be serialised  - think the KGB Noir issues and or what Frew release.
    • Each story will be around 50 pages (give or take) and the comics themselves will be around 50 pages (give or take).
    • Will feature several stories including stand alone Phantom story and a cross over story with Mandrake and Lothar.
    • Some stories will be in black and white.
    • Released bi monthly.
    • Mike Bullock will be the main writer.
    • Argentinian Sergio Ibáñez will be one artist. Others to be named.
    • First comic will be out in the first half of 2024.
    • Majority of the stories will be about the 21st Phantom in today’s modern Africa

The questions we would like to see answered:

    • Will there be variant covers?
    • Is it a continuation of the previous Moonstone continuity or a new start? ie will we see the same bad guys like Ali Gutaale, Temur Singh, Arthur Locke, Anna Bacia and Manuel Ortega?
    • If it's a new start: Will the Moonstone stories have a consistent lineage of historical Phantom's and the Phantom bible?
    • How they go about fitting their tales into the existing universe and/or extending on that / breaking that
    • Will they reprint the old stories again?
    • Will the issues be standalone stories or part of a wider arc?
    • What stories must I read from a decade ago to follow on from what will be told in 2024?

Now as mentioned in the article, we will be having Mike Bullock and hopefully Joe Gentile as well on a future podcast so if you have your own questions we did not ask or answer, please send them to our email address chroniclechamber@gmail.com or chat with us via our social media profiles in Facebook, Twitter and or Instagram

#251 - Catch Up on the Latest of the Phantom Video Game

#251 - Catch Up on the Latest of the Phantom Video Game

Recently Art of Play Games released some new in game screenshots on the Phantom Video Game and the phan community was very excited so we thought it is best to catch up with him. Join Jermayn Parker and Stephen East as they go through the screenshots and ask all the questions to Ashley Nicholls.

Some of the questions we asked Ashley Nicholls are below. These questions were asked by phans that were sent to us or asked on the various social media accounts:

    • Is July 2024 still the targeted release date?
    • Any luck with Billy Zane
    • Trailer of the story / video game coming out soon?
    • Any plans for downloadable content?
    • Any plans for alternative slipcovers?
    • For those non gamers, what ‘collectable’ element would there be for us?
    • Will there be other collectable's to collect besides the actual video game?
    • Will there be a crowd funding option?
    • How do you plan to deal with the characters' relative obscurity outside selective countries like Australia, India and Scandinavia? Some parts of Europe and USA not exactly huge phans
    • Will there be any codes or even cheat codes?
    • Will there be print codes like on AFL cards or sister related products like the Fortnight comic?
    • Playability in India and South America who do not use consoles?
    • Is there room for a sequel or more Phantom video games?

Some key dates are July 2023 with the game trailer to be released. August / September 2023 for a crowd fund campaign for the collectable set. July 2024 for the release of the game. (Please note: Dates subject to change with possible delays)

    #243 - Previewing Fantomen 2023

    #243 - Previewing Fantomen 2023

Jermayn Parker is the odd man out as he is joined not by one, or even two but three Swedes in Mikael Lyck, Andreas Eriksson and Jacob Habinc. For Those Who Came In Late: Andreas and Jacob are the editors for Fantomen and they give what we can look forward to for the year 2023. Mikael Lyck helps drill the two editors and we manage to get several exclusives from the editorial team.

We start off by learning about Jacob Habinc and Andreas Eriksson and their histories with the comic and their roles as joint editors for the magazine.

We then ask the questions about Fantomen 2023 and what we can expect. They will release the same amount of issues with the same amount of pages and a Christmas album and softcover album.

The best news is that we will see another hardcover collection book like we saw in 2022 with the Heart of Darkness book. They gave us one clue which is that the stories are Team Fantomen and drawn and written by the same creators. We think we have an idea of the theme, do you? Let us know in the comments or on socials.

Some of the other topics we touch upon are the future of the magazine, subscription and printing numbers, some of the new and or returning creators we will see in 2023 like Sal Velluto, Rafael Ruiz, Phillip Madden, David Bishop and Anna Weatherley

One interesting subject was how and why they select Frew stories to print in their own magazines. The other interesting path was how they plan to go ahead with the Sandal Singh and 22nd Phantom plots and how the death of Claes Reimerthi has caused them to rethink the future of the storylines.

#242 - Introducing Ash Nicholls and Art of Play

#242 - Introducing Ash Nicholls and Art of Play

The team interviews the man behind perhaps the biggest news of the last 10 years - the announcement of the Phantom video game by Art of Play Games. Thousands of phans from around the world were shocked, amazed and generally excited at the announcement.

After the excitement sunk in, the questions flowed so we sat down with Art of Play games director Ash Nicholls who was very open and we think to say after two hours, there may not be many questions we didn't ask.

Some of the key questions that are answered in the podcast are:

    • Is it a 2D or 3D style game?
    • The genre of the game and why Art of Play Games chose this genre.
    • The game levels and storyline
    • Key dates including the digital, console and collector box release dates.
    • What will be in the collector boxes
    • The price points for the various ways of purchasing the game.
    • Who are the artists and writers involved in the creation of the game.
    • Will it be multi player?
    • What generation of the Phantom is featured?
    • What countries and locations will the Phantom be visiting?
    • Will regular and known characters of the Phantom be included in the game?
    • Will there be a morality clause with the game play that suits the Phantom ethos?
    • What Phantom tropes will be non negotiable?
    • Is there room for an expanded “game universe” with other Phantoms or characters like Flash, Mandrake etc?
    • When can we expect more images or gameplay footage?
    • Easter eggs during the game
    • Will the game play like a comic?
    • Will there be a collectible element?
    • How many units Art of Play Games need to sell to make a profit
    • The ball park figure to make this game.

During the podcast, Ash asks for phan input on certain elements, so ensure you listen or watch and send your feedback to our comments sections.
