Welcome to Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast where we're catching up on all the current releases. First up is of course JAWAAN starring Shahrukh Khan, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, and a whole bunch of special appearances. The prevue was all anyone could talk about online for days and we are hype!

We also discuss the new song from ROCKY AUR RANI KI PREM KAHANI, a remix of Jhumka Gira Re with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt bringing the old school glamour in What Jhumka. We have some thoughts about the songs though.

Sujoy watched THE TRIAL, the new streaming show starring Kajol as a desi The Good Wife. We're all fans of the original show so we had a bunch of thoughts.

And lastly, we all watched KOHRRA on Netflix starring Barun Sobti and Savinderpal Vicky as seedy cops in Punjab who're investigating a gruesome murder.

The Trial starring Bollywood star Kajol is set to release on Disney+ Hotstar on July 14th. The legal drama is a remake of the hit American TV show, The Good Wife, headlined by Julianna Margulies. It is among the several international shows remade in Hindi, including the upcoming series Citadel, a remake of the 2023 Prime Video original series of the same name. An obvious concern with these remakes is whether they would manage to deliver the story in an authentic manner or will the essence of the plot be lost in translation. Some also argue that such adaptations serve as a tribute to the original work and remaking it in another language, only allows for the story to reach and be appreciated by a wider audience. And in doing so, certain creative liberties should be allowed in refurbishing the story to blend into the new setting while retaining the spirit of the original writing. Have Indian remakes managed to live up to the iconic international shows they’ve been adapted from? Let’s find out in today’s List hai toh hit hai where we list Indian shows that have been remade from popular international shows.

Last week, the proceedings against K. continued, leading K. to track down some of the court officials in the strangest of circumstances, and yet he is still none the wiser as to his crime. His landlady, Frau Grubach, has theorised that the trial may have something to do with his association with another of her tenants, Fräulein Bürstner, and K. decides he needs to confront her, especially after the potentially compromising events of their last meeting. Last week we were introduced to our protagonist, K., who has been arrested pending 'proceedings', though he has no idea what crime he is supposed to have committed. He has been allowed to freely roam while investigations occur, but how will he mount a defence when even the arresting officers do not know what he has been charged with...?

    The Trial - Part 1 (of 10)

    The Trial - Part 1 (of 10)

This week we begin a new Tale from a writer we have featured before: master of paranoia and the nightmarishly mundane, Franz Kafka.  'The Trial' (or 'Der Process' as it is known in German) follows the story of Josef K., a man arrested and put on trial by a distant and obscure authority for a crime unknown to him. It was written during the early part of WW1 and salvaged by Kafka's friend, Max Brod, to be published posthumously a decade later. It would become one of Kafka's best known works.

Remarkable Part 61: It Is Finished! (Mark 15:33-47)

Remarkable Part 61: It Is Finished! (Mark 15:33-47)

As Jesus is on the cross, the sky over the entire region is filled with darkness. Jesus cries out to His father saying, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Jesus is experiencing, for the first time, the weight of sin as well as separation from God. Jesus, who had never known sin, is taking the judgment for the sins of all who will believe, so that we can be free. As Jesus breathes His last breath, he cries, "It is finished!" The curtain of the temple breaks from top to bottom, separating the barrier between God and mankind. The centurion overseeing Jesus' death notices something about how He died, and says, "Surely this man was the Son of God."
Jesus' death is confirmed, and He is laid in a tomb with the entrance sealed shut.

The OJ Simpson chase happened more than 25 years ago, and yet there are still a lot of questions about its impact. For the first time ever we take you inside Ford to discover what was happening that night: Inside a Ford factory, Inside the Ford Call Center, and inside the Chairman’s office. It’s all in an effort to answer the question, “Why did Ford kill the Bronco?”

It turns out there is one suspect no one ever considered: A group of people that had nothing to do with the Bronco during its first two decades. Is it possible that the biggest threat the Bronco would face during its incredible run would be….. Millennials?
