    Colossians Chapter 4 :: [Episode163]

    Colossians Chapter 4 :: [Episode163]

    Studying God’s word is our first love. We will talk about pretty much anything on this podcast, but sharing what God is teaching us through His word is our favorite.

    For the next 4 episodes, we’ll be walking through Colossians. Here’s some fun facts:

    *Colossians was most likely Paul’s first epistle from prison.
    *Paul didn’t start the church at Colosse nor did he ever visit there.
    *Paul wrote this letter to encourage the Believers living there. They were growing in their faith and he wanted to cheer them up and on.

    The book of Colossians is meant to encourage us as we grow. Growth can hurt. Did you ever have “growing pains” as a child? Your mom most likely rubbed your legs and gave you some extra TLC before sending you back to bed with this admonishment, “you’ll be fine, go to sleep!” ☺ The church at Colosse was experiencing growing pains.

    “It is not until a man finds his faith opposed and attacked that he begins to think out the implications of that faith. It is not until the Church is confronted with some dangerous heresy that she begins to realize the riches and the wonder of orthodoxy.”  - William Barclay

    We hope you’ll grab a pen and your Bible and study Colossians with us! Let us know what you’re learning and how God speaks and works in your life!

    Genesis 1

    Genesis 1
    Isn’t there’s just something about beginnings, a new start, a new year, a new day even, a clean white planner page just waiting to be filled… Well, you get the idea, right?!

    Join M as she begins a deep dive in the very first thin, crinkly pages of our Bibles… The beginning of all beginnings, the book of Genesis.

    The true history of who God is, who we are, where we came from, how things went wrong, and God’s planned rescue through Jesus all along. Genesis lays the foundation for everything else we will encounter in the remaining 65 books of the Bible so that sounds like a pretty important place to start for sure!

    Please don’t miss out on any of this + so much more as we launch into the new year in Genesis!

    Tara-Leigh Cobble

    Tara-Leigh Cobble

    Today on Thriving Beyond Belief, we have Tara-Leigh Cobble!

    Despite an early introduction to Christianity, Tara wasted years coasting on the second-hand information she learned from others. In 2008, through the gentle encouragement of a friend, she read all the way through the Bible for the first time. It awakened a recognition of her need to have others walking closely alongside her in my pursuit of God -- people to hold her accountable for scripture memory and Bible reading and all the things that were bringing her so much newfound joy!

    Out of that need, Tara started D-Group (Discipleship Group) a handful of college students in 2009 and it has grown into 250+ groups around the world. What she's learned has motivated her to encourage others to pursue relational knowledge of God, because she has found that He is where the joy is! She loves to speak to audiences about God and His Word, and she has written a few books with an aim to point others toward Him through her story as well as their own. She also writes and host a daily podcast called The Bible Recap, which aims to keep people connected to reading the Bible when they're tempted to quit for lack of understanding, as well as a daily radio show called The God Shot.

    Tara lives in a concrete box in the skies of Dallas, TX, where she has no spouse, pets, or children -- or anything else that might die if she forget to feed it.

    Chrissie and Lisa Set Goals for 2021 :: [Episode 107]

    Happy 2021! We made it! Yippeeee!!!!

    2020 is in the rearview mirror and we have entered 2021. As we look at the year ahead, we have always made it a habit throughout our friendship to grab a coffee in January and share goals for the year.

    We do this according to Luke 2:52 – “and Jesus grew in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man.” So during this episode of The Wonder Podcast, you’ll hear our physical, wisdom, spiritual, and community goals for 2021!

    Also, Lisa shares her WORD for the year.

    3 Mistakes We Make When Reading The Bible

    3 Mistakes We Make When Reading The Bible
    I got to sit down with Tara Leigh Cobble from the "The Bible Recap" and "The God Shot" here at KCBI, and she lays it all out for us in talking about the 3 mistakes we often make when we're reading the bible.

    1) We go into scripture with a "me" attitude. Tara said she often goes to scripture wanting to see how she can get what she wants from God and how to please God instead of going into her time in the Word looking for God.

    2) We don't regard the context of what we're reading as important. We have this habit of trying to pull things out of their intended context to try and make it fit into our life circumstances. We need to start looking at scripture for what it really is and learning from the reality of the words that Jesus spoke.

    3) We're impatient. Sometimes, we make the mistake of reading scripture as an application list and when we do read through scripture and things don't make sense, we desire immediate answers. It's like going into your first conversation with someone and demanding answers about their deepest experiences when we haven't even gotten to know them. We first have to get to know God and find patience in that relationship.

    Have you been guilty of any of these? I sure have. If you want to hear my full sit down with Tara Leigh Cobble, you can find it wherever you get your podcasts!
