The Brisbane River is famous for its healthy population of large threadfin salmon (king threadfin) that exhibit the unusual trait for this species of surface feeding on prawns and baitfish. But whilst the majority of anglers focus their efforts under lights around the city reaches of the river, Joshua Charles gets consistent results further upstream.

During the warmer months the Brisbane River offer two distinctly different threadfin salmon fishing experiences. The Port of Brisbane offers vertical fishing in 10-12m of water during daylight, while further upstream it’s very effective fishing close to the water surface at night under the many artificial lights. Blue nosed threadfin (aka blue salmon) are a prevalent northern Australian sport fish that's often overlooked by anglers more focused on iconic species such as barramundi and king threadfin.
