Ep. 167: Grave Mistake: DREDG Shoulda Been Huge!!!

Ep. 167: Grave Mistake: DREDG Shoulda Been Huge!!!

This week we present another installment of an ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. We bring you an in-depth exploration of a band from the early 2000s that straddles the lines of alternative, rock, metal, and prog simultaneously: DREDG! Equal parts Incubus-Tool-Muse-Pink Floyd-U2, yet this band was never able to break into the mainstream. We think this band Shoulda Been Huge!!!

This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This band is similar to another favorite that we featured on an early Grave Mistake episode; OURS. Kevin had a chance to catch OURS & DREDG on tour together back in 2005, although he screwed the time up and completely missed OURS; but that’s beside the point. Robert is completely unaware of them. Will he agree with Kevin’s lobbying for “Shoulda Been Huge” status??? Have a listen and find out for yourself.

    Songs this week include:

    1. Dredg – “Symbol Song” from Leitmotif (2001)
    2. Dredg – “Same Ol’ Road” from El Cielo (2002)
    3. Dredg – “The Tanbark Is Hot Lava” from Catch Without Arms (2005)
    4. Dredg – “Ode To The Sun” from Live At The Fillmore (2006)
    5. Dredg - “I Don’t Know” from The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion (2009)
    6. Dredg – “Upon Returning” from Chuckles And Mr. Sqeezy (2011)
    7. Dredg – “The Canyon Behind Her” from El Cielo (2002)

Ep. 62: Covers From Beyond - Tributes To The Godz!!!

Ep. 62: Covers From Beyond - Tributes To The Godz!!!

What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert is forced to test his endurance and provide feedback, as he has no idea what he will be subjected to every week. Our hope is that we turn you on to something that was lost on your ears, or something you've simply forgotten about, or that (in our opinion) should have been the next big thing.

    Songs this week include:

    1. M.A.C.C. - “Hey Baby [Land Of The New Rising Sun] (Jimi Hendrix)” from Stone Free: A Tribute To Jimi Hendrix (1993)
    2. Iron Maiden - “Space Truckin’ (Deep Purple)” from Re-Machined: A Tribute To Deep Purple’s Machine Head (2012)
    3. Lemmy - “Shout It Out Loud (KISS)” from Pure Fire – The Ultimate KISS Tribute (2018)
    4. Derek Sherinian - “Eminence Front (The Who)” from Who Are You? – An All-Star Tribute To The Who (2012)
    5. Silver Jet - “Drive My Car (The Beatles)” from Shared Vision: The Songs Of The Beatles (1994)
    6. Glenn Hughes - “Young Lust (Pink Floyd)” from Back Against The Wall – A Tribute To Pink Floyd (2005)
    7. Duff McKagen / Steve Jones / Matt Sorem - “Elected (Alice Cooper)” from Welcome To The Nightmare: An All-Star Tribute To Alice Cooper (2005)
    8. Oleander – “Hello, I Love You (The Doors)” from Stoned Immaculate: The Music Of The Doors (2000)

Brazilian singer, songwriter, actress and visual artist, Cinthya Hussey

Brazilian singer, songwriter, actress and visual artist, Cinthya Hussey

Brazilian singer, songwriter, actress and visual artist, Cinthya Hussey was inspired to play the ukulele by Hawaii's Na Hoku Hanohano awards artist, musician, Paula Fuga when she watched her inspirational speech on TEDxMaui conference "Believe in Yourself," in 2012.  Paula Fuga's 'Misery's End' was the first song Cinthya learned to play on the Ukulele. Not long after that, her husband, Mission's frontman and guitarist, Wayne Hussey bought her a ukulele for a wedding anniversary present.

Since then, Cinthya released her first single and official video, a cover of Morrissey's  "Everyday is Like Sunday," produced by Wayne Hussey.  Cinthya has also recently contributed vocals to a couple of remixes of the Beauty In Chaos anthem, "The Delicate Balance Of All Things," the "Rapid Reiteration Mix," remixed by renowned music producer Tim Palmer and the Equipoise Mix, mixed by the curator of Beauty in Chaos, Michael Ciravolo and Grammy Award winning producer Michael Rozon.  Cinthya's paintings were also used as artwork for the albums "Out of Chaos Comes" and "Chaos Continues. "

Cinthya's new single was released on December 11, 2020 called "My Heart is a Ghosttown." Produced by Wayne Hussey, the song is like a vision of "50s/60s pop meets the Cocteau Twins meets David Lynch."  This is  her first song that she wrote, originally a poem, which will be included on her debut solo album planned for release in 2021.
