LIfe's Worth Living Podcast - Big Budah

Big Budah has been making us smile for years in Utah. You know him from his time as a DJ on the radio, and his time on the AM News, as a feature reporter. Budah felt this was his calling bringing happiness to us his viewers. Then COVID-19 hit, and things got real. It was during this time that things began to unravel with his mental health. When it started, he felt it was harder and harder to bring himself out of the darkness he felt. Inside he knew everyone was against him, but that was just what his mind was telling him. One night he borrowed a gun, and took a drive on I-80 West to Wendover, NV. Somewhere along the way he pulled to the side of the road and he decided it was over. Hear Budah tell his experience, and the reason he is here telling you this story rather than reading it as a headline. Budah has joined with LWLF, and is taking part on our 7th Annual 100 Mile Walk to Wendover this month. Come join us on this life changing event. Register at Walk to Wendover or just come for the after party at the Peppermill Concert Hall for a Linda Ronstadt Tribute Concert with a special guest appearance by current Voice contestant EJ Michels. Episode 18 Evelynne Derricott

In 2011, 69 year old grandmother Evelynne Derricott was murdered in her own Tooele, Utah home. Her killer escaped in her own vehicle and stole her cell phone. Although these items were found, detectives could not track down the murderer – although they had his DNA. Using a Utah law that allows for searches of CODIS for relatives of the unknown suspect who left his DNA behind, detectives found that Evelynne’s killer had three close relatives whose names were in the database. These names led them to Evelynne’s murderer – who was alive and well and still living in the area.

Bonneville Brewery: A Treasure in Tooele

Bonneville Brewery: A Treasure in Tooele

You don’t need to live in Salt Lake County to quench your thirst for Utah craft beer. Bonneville Brewery is located 35 miles to the west of the capital city. It’s well worth the drive—not only for the beer but also for the brewpub fare and the stunning scenery.

The two-story pub is spacious. And in warmer months you’re able to enjoy a pint on the patio while taking in views of the Great Salt Lake, Stansbury and Antelope islands, and the Oquirrh Mountains. For non-Utahns, the Great Salt Lake is the remnants of the massive prehistoric Lake Bonneville, the brewery’s namesake.

We sat down with Bonneville Head Brewer Dave Watson to learn more about this somewhat hidden gem. Watson is a former photojournalist who then worked at The Beer Nut Homebrew Shop and Desert Edge Pub in Salt Lake City before helping to open Bonneville Brewery in 2012.

    During our conversation:

    • We chat about Watson’s interesting path to Bonneville Brewery
    • We discuss his philosophy when it comes to brewing award-winning beers
    • He shares his thoughts on the Utah craft beer scene and the growth it’s experienced in recent years
    • And he explains the origin story for one of Bonneville’s most-recognizable brews — Free Roller Session IPA

Jamie and the fashionably late Ben sit down with comedian Kiley Cook and Improv master Andrew Jensen. We talk about the difficulties of crowd work, getting girls to go on chloroform dates, and no one wants to answer any of Jamie's hard hitting questions.
