Continuing our 100 darkest moments in pop culture history we examine the trading card bust of the 1990s. For generations sports fans, especially baseball, collected trading cards. In the past, these cards packaged often with bubble gum, often also increased in value, especially for rookie players who became big stars. Enter the speculators who were then feed by massive over production. By the early 1990s every sport (including pro wrestling, football, hockey) and even pop culture properties (comic books, TV shows, and movies) had multiple card sets. Over supply lead to a crash in values and once the speculators fled, millions of people were left with boxes of worthless cards.

Franklin Fitch (@Fitchinverse) is the Director of Growth/Marketing for Parallel—one of the highest touted digital trading card games (TCGs) in crypto. Franklin gives a 101 breakdown of Parallel’s sci-fi backstory, lore, community, roadmap, and so much more.

Marc ruins the Perfect Podcast early. Mike and Marc do a deep dive into highly palatable foods like: Oreos, Pizza, Chick-Fil-A. Marc is back on the road and reveals an alternate "road" personality that wants him to have fun and die young. Almost as exciting: Marc went mirror shopping with his wife. Some talk about NBA TopShots and "Murder Among the Mormons" too.

Laura Sogar and Mae Planert discuss the boom in the trading card industry. Dads lining up for hours at Target, robots bidding at auctions, Vegas Dave doing box breaks with Snoop Dog and old Pokemon cards that are selling for thousands of dollars.
