Meredith Hodges - Lucky Three Ranch - Loveland, CO - Cruppers - Britchen - Breeching

Meredith Hodges - Lucky Three Ranch - Loveland, CO - Cruppers - Britchen - Breeching

Meredith Hodges talks about Understanding the Use of Cruppers and Breeching on MuleTalk! Key points in this episode:

    • Feeding - know what is nutritionally effective for your mules.
    • Tack & Equipment - mohair - alpaca girths are ideal equipment.
    • Keep your leather tack CLEAN to prevent rubbing and sores.
    • Select the proper leather crupper.
    • Proper adjustment of the crupper/britchen.
    • Use bridle leather for your crupper - Biothane and Nylon do not warm up with elasticity and flexibility like leather does.
    • Weight & Ability of the Rider - using the proper seat and leg will help your mule maintain his balance and footing on the trail.
    • Crupper or Breeching? Just remember breeching has more straps and more risk of chafing than does a crupper.

    Trail Riding Portugal

    Trail Riding Portugal

Portugal is the dream for any horse rider, rolling hills and blue rivers, oak forest, rocks and tiny villages built from rough stones. Ute spent two weeks exploring continental Europe's westernmost country and of course she went trail riding. Riding through Portugal together with long rider Cathleen Leonard, who has recently made Portugal her home and camping under the stars was a very special experience. In today's podcast episode Cathleen talks about what it is like to move together with horses to another country and making it her home. We also chat about trail riding in Portugal and our ride together.
