TransGender TransBetter? | Gender Shifting as a Sign of Societal Progress or Peril | YBT006 CWP045

Do civilizations crumble under the weight of shifting gender norms? Our dynamic panelists spark a riveting dialogue about this very question. We convened a panel, including Jeremy, Nick, Mary, Maximus, and Robert, to dissect the phenomenon that Murray proposes: the focus on gender identity as a harbinger of societal decline. As we traverse through our cultural landscape, from pop songs to policy debates, our episode delves into the heart of why gender conversations have become so pervasive in Western society, especially in the United States.  What is the Christian response?

This is far more than just a discussion of societal constructs; it's an exploration of the spiritual vacuum that may be at our core. Our conversation ventures deep into the meaning of suffering and authenticity in a world that increasingly prioritizes individual identity over collective unity, let alone unification with Christ Jesus. We tackle the challenging idea that the blurring of established norms might not be the cause of societal deterioration but rather a symptom of a larger crisis—a detachment from a shared objective reality, Christ Himself, that once bound us together. Join us as we seek to understand whether our current preoccupation with personal identity is a sign of progress or peril.

Thank you for journeying w/ the Saints with us!

This week, FANTI brings you another special installment of We See Each Other: The Podcast. We’ll be back next week to give you the usual good good!

On this week’s episode, hosts Tre’vell Anderson and Shar Jossell speak with actor, Brian Michael Smith. The star shares how he is now able to bring all sides of himself to the table as an actor. But first, our hosts discuss masc representation in media, or rather the lack thereof. With cis women actors playing transmasculine characters as the norm back in the day, like Hilary Swank in Boys Don’t Cry, our hosts discuss how this practice creates further confusion and harm into the trans conversation. Then later, we Pass The Mic to our everyday trans siblings and get a lesson on transmasculine activist and civil rights pioneer, Pauli Murray.

“Mother Nature is a TERF” | Helen Joyce & Peter Boghossian

“Mother Nature is a TERF” | Helen Joyce & Peter Boghossian

Helen Joyce is causing a lot of trouble. YouTube recently removed her conversation with Jordan Peterson (due to vague accusations of “hate speech” and “inciting violence”) and the BBC doesn’t invite her on air anymore. Among her heresies, she is guilty of believing there are two sexes and saying it out loud.

Helen, an Irish journalist, bestselling author, and director of advocacy at Sex Matters, spoke to Peter Boghossian about the differences between men and women. In many arenas, the differences don’t matter, but they are a matter of consequence regarding women’s privacy, vulnerability, and physical competition.

Peter and Helen discuss the definition of sex, why trans men should be allowed in women’s spaces, the tragedy of the commons, fa’afafine, evolution, the “thought-terminating cliché,” the tribal fear of rejection, the cultivation of mental illness, why institutions are losing their North Stars, and much more.

    Trans Youth

    Trans Youth
Children know themselves better than we give them credit for. Matthew knew at a young age that he wasn’t a girl and it just took a gentle assist from his mom to realize that he was a boy. When Marcella’s trans daughter expressed an interest in wearing dresses, she didn’t hesitate to demonstrate love and support. But when the local bully decided to pick on her daughter on the way to school, the other neighborhood kids came to the rescue - pushing back against the bully’s comments and inspiring Marcella in the process. In this episode, Phil and Alex listen to Matthew and Marcella’s stories and discuss the importance of allowing youth to explore their identities, the necessity of queer and trans visibility, and how - more often than not - children know who they are better than we do.

We've often talked about the solidarity and understanding shared by the bi and trans communities, but there's also a lot of overlap -- many bisexual people are trans or non-binary, and vice-versa. Today, we're spotlighting three bi trans men living in the UK, interviewed by guest-host Gabriel Novo.

Gabriel spoke with Max, a psychotherapist in training; Ash, who's working to make the funeral industry more inclusive for queer and trans folks; and Etienne, an audio engineer who works in film and television. They discussed how and when these men realized they were trans and bisexual (sometimes not at the same time), the coming-out process for each, the value of supportive friends and family (and therapy!), how their bi and trans identities intersect and influence each other, what it's like to transition both emotionally and practically within the UK healthcare system, shifting perspectives and feelings on masculinity during transition, how various facets of identity can affect one's sense of self, TERFs (but only briefly, because they're scary and dumb), the effects of the pandemic on their identities and transitions, and much more!

Thank you to Max, Ash, and Etienne for sharing their stories so openly and authentically, and thank you to Gabriel for his thoughtful and caring interviews.

S2E18: Talking Gender, Trans Rights and Women's Rights
Earlier on the Social JustUs podcast, we spoke with evolutionary biologist, Dr Colin Wright about Sex, Gender and Cancel Culture. In this episode, we talk with Dr Debbie Hayton - a Physics teacher, freelance journalist and trade unionist who happens to be a trans person. She has written extensively about what it means to be trans and how trans people can be included in society without compromising the rights of other vulnerable groups.

You will hear about Debbie's experience transitioning later on in life, in 2012. We will also be talking about:

    • The impact on Women, and in particular, their right to organise as a biological sex and their ability to protect their boundaries and spaces.
    • The inclusion of transgender women in women't sports
    • The impact on children who are facing pressures to determine their gender.
