Trans Visibility in Cinema and the Ripple Effects in Society

Get ready for a rollercoaster of a conversation where we unpack the bold and the beautiful in celebrity culture, starting with Trey Songz's unforeseen 'thug' twist. Would you believe Jacquees' hair-pulling scuffle could spark a wildfire of internet chatter? It's all about the personal flair these stars bring through their hairstyles and the statements they make—like Chris Brown's next moves in the music biz and the sartorial splendor lighting up the BT Awards.

But there's more to our chat than glitz and glam. We honor the fierce trans women reshaping film and societal norms, bravely facing backlash while paving the way for heartfelt discussions about love in the face of profound personal change. This isn't about surface-level adoration; it's a deep dive into how authentic connections thrive as we evolve. From the way masculine-presenting women receive compliments to the complexities within the LGBTQ+ community, we're challenging conventions and celebrating every expression of self-identity.

Wrap up with us as we highlight the LGBTQ+ community's indelible mark on the fashion and music industries, recognizing the icons who dare to disrupt the status quo. And trust me, this isn't just chit-chat; we're addressing the real and raw elements of life and love that connect us all. So, whether you're here to get the lowdown on celebrity drama or to join a cultural celebration that's as vibrant as the communities we represent, this episode is your ticket to the heart of the action.

T-Time Tuesdays With Maki Gingoyon "Transgender Awareness Week"

It's T-Time Tuesday on the Breakfast with Tiffany Show podcast! Today, Maki Gingoyon joins Tiffany for an important conversation, delving into the significance of Transgender Day of Remembrance. Tiffany shares her recent experiences, including involvement in a film about LGBT issues in Japan and producing a documentary for awareness.

The hosts discuss Japan's Supreme Court ruling on transgender rights but express concerns about the country's cultural conservatism hindering visibility. Tiffany emphasizes the importance of inclusivity, citing the 72nd Miss Universe beauty pageant as a positive influence on trans visibility. The hosts also tackle the limited opportunities for trans individuals in TV roles and shed light on the dangers and fears of violence faced by the transgender community, stressing the need for understanding and awareness.
Tune in for a thoughtful exploration of transgender issues in Japan and beyond!

EP004 - What Do Trans Visibility and Queer Enough-ness Have in Common? w/ Corey More

EP004 - What Do Trans Visibility and Queer Enough-ness Have in Common? w/ Corey More

In this episode, I talk with Corey More (they/them)--sex educator, sex worker, full-spectrum doula, harm reduction advocate and activist, and one of my role models. We talked about... so many things. Do trans people owe visibility to society? To the movement? What does it mean to be "legible" as a queer or trans person? How can we feel like "enough" if we don't look the way our identity is "supposed" to look? How can we begin to curate queer spaces based on shared values rather than shared aesthetics or presentations? We dive into all these questions and more.

WSEO - The Black Trans Gaze (ft. Kristen Lovell and D. Smith)

This week FANTI is passing the mic to We See Each Other: The Podcast. After you listen to the episode, make sure to check out Kristen Lovell’s The Stroll which premiered on Max the evening before this episode dropped.

Hosts Tre’vell Anderson and Shar Jossell welcome producer and co - director of the documentary, The Stroll, Kristen Lovell as they discuss the documentary’s portrayal of trans sex workers who worked in the Meatpacking District of New York City during the 90s. Lovell also speaks on finally having the control of the Black trans narrative behind the camera, and not just as the subject. Then, our hosts speak with the producer and director of the documentary, Kokomo City, D. Smith. She discusses the audience's reception to the film and  the legacy of Koko Da Doll, the star of the film who was tragically murdered earlier this year.

But first, Tre’vell and Shar discuss sex work representation in media as it pertains to Black Trans women and while it being a necessary piece of trans history, it is not the end all be all of trans representation. And later we hear what every day trans folks have to say about trans visibility in another segment of Pass The Mic.

    61. LGBTQ+ representation that we love | HAPPY PRIDE!

LGBTQ+ representation in the media is visibility. Visibility is normalization for marginalized groups and an opportunity for other stories outside of heteronormativity to be told. So today we’re going to highlight some of our favorite LGBTQ+ portrayals in the media and why we love these representations.

The Ongoing Struggle for Trans Rights

Conall and Emerson discuss the issues that trans people encounter as a result of the abuse and discrimination they face, at both individual and institutional levels. We also talk about the political reasons as to why the Republican Party and the Trump administration have been attacking trans people so aggressively. Finally, we emphasize actions that can be taken to support the trans people in your life and the trans community at large.

NOTE FROM CONALL: There were many things we didn’t touch upon in the video - we primarily focused on trans women and the oppression they face. We hope you’ll take the time to learn more about trans people and their experiences, starting with some of the links we have here.
