    Season 4, Episode 77

We're recording this episode on New Years Eve because Steve and T-Bone want to make sure you have something to listen to as 2024 begins.  We have a couple of new album reviews.

First up is from Peter Gabriel, an artist that we don't hear enough from.  After two decades, he's back with his new album, i/o.

In addition, we take a listen to Trevor Horn's Echos: Ancient And Modern.  This is a covers album of songs you'll recognize, sung by a variety of artists.

Finally, music news will have to wait.  It's the end of 2023 and we have our annual top 10 albums list.

Leee John Celebrates Four Decades Of Imagination's "Just An Illusion"

Leee John Celebrates Four Decades Of Imagination's "Just An Illusion"

As the glamour of New Wave made its way through the UK music scene with acts like Visage, Duran Duran, and Spandau Ballet, a band made out of three black men was making the most, sashaying into TV studios with an extravagant image and hypnotic tunes to match.

Vocalist Leee John, bassist Ashley Ingram, and drummer Errol Kennedy ruled both the charts and the dancefloors with their own silky and soulful "Imagination" sound, created in collaboration with innovative production team Steve Jolley and Tony Swain, later architects of pop classics recorded by Spandau, Alison Moyet, and Bananarama.

In this special CHOONS episode, Leee takes a trip back to his days working the pub circuit and learning from the greats, his pre-Imagination recordings, the inspiration behind his first hit singles with the band, and the treacherous session that led to one of the most unforgettable floor-fillers of the 1980s.

    Show Tracklisting:

    • Just An Illusion - Nightdubbing Version (Imagination)
    • Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet (Gonzalez)
    • Walk On The Wild Side (Lou Reed)
    • Body Talk (Imagination)
    • Burnin' Up (Imagination)
    • I'll Always Love You (But Don't Look Back) (Imagination)
    • Flashback (Imagination)
    • True (Spandau Ballet)
    • Just An Illusion - Instrumental (Imagination)
    • Just An Illusion (Imagination)

    Ep. 129: R.I.P. Alan White

    Ep. 129: R.I.P. Alan White

It is again with heavy hearts that we deliver this week’s episode about yet another fallen drummer: the amazing Mr. Alan White. The YES drummer passed away on May 26, 2022, at the age of 72 after dealing with some more recent illnesses. Kevin has a very deep connection to YES and Alan as a lifelong fan and student of their music. While not an obscure band by any means (the Rock & Roll Hall-of-Famers have sold 13.5 million RIAA-certified albums in the US, as well as more than 30 million albums worldwide and in 1985, they won a Grammy award), Alan had a number of side projects and collaborations during his 50-year tenure with YES. Another tough loss for the classic and progressive rock community.

New to InObscuria? Typically, what we do is exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. In the case of this particular episode, we are leaning towards the LOST. We are paying tribute to another titan of rock drummers! Rest In Peace Alan. Heaven’s rhythm section just got mightier!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Adrian Belew / Alan White / Keith Emerson – “In The Flesh?” from Back Against The Wall – A Tribute To Pink Floyd (2005)
    2. White – “Fate” from White (2006)
    3. Yes – “Make It Easy / Owner Of A Lonely Heart” from Union Live (1991)
    4. Alan White – “One Way Rag” from Ramshackled (1976)
    5. CIRCA: – “Information Overload” from CIRCA: (2006)
    6. Levin-Torn-White – “The Hood Fell” from Levin Torn White (2011)
    7. Yes – “The Calling” from Endless Dream: New York 6.19.94 (1994)

This is a special episode on the musical legacy of the English band Yes. They are considered to be the very epitome of the expansively influenced musical genre referred to as Progressive Rock. This is a quick overview of their recorded legacy.

Min tone i livet: Philip Meisner - Seal, Kiss from a Rose
Varighed: 7:27

The 1993 Contract Killings Of Former Motown Record Producer Lawrence Horn's Ex-Wife And His Severely Disabled 8-Year-Old Son

**KD IS NO LONGER WITH ORBITAL JIGSAW OR BLUBRRY**

On March 3, 1993, an intruder broke into the home of Millie Horn and murder her, her severely disabled 8 year old son, Trevor, and his nurse.  Before long, investigators began to uncover a plot hatched by Millie’s ex-husband, former Motown producer and sound engineer, Lawrence Horn, Trevor’s father, to eliminate them so he could become the sole beneficiary of Trevor’s $1.7 million settlement for a malpractice lawsuit that caused his disabilities - quadriplegia, cerebral palsy, and brain damage.  Listen to hear the details of how a hitman learned to to become a professional from a book entitled “Hitman: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors” in order to carry out the killings.
