Ep. 111 - Juan Soto (Age 23) is a Padre and Other Trade Deadline Adventures

After a debate over slowcore vs shoegaze, Andrew, Craig and Rex discuss three major acquisitions for the Houston Astros, the San Diego Padres blockbuster deal for Juan Soto and Josh Bell (and the Washington Nationals prospect haul in return) and other assorted trade deadline deals. They also dismissed the idea that the Angels would ever consider trading Shohei Ohtani and evaluated Mike Trout's Hall of Fame bona fides if he (God forbid!) never plays or never plays up to Mike Trout standards again. Finally, as usual, our check it out recommendations.

Our Boyfriends are Back, and Locked Out

Patti and the Pottymouth kick off a new round of baseball boyfriends with their picks for the Orioles and Diamondbacks. Pottymouth profiles comeback player of the year Trey Mancini, and homegrown utility player Josh Rojas. Patti finally celebrates Adley Rutschman Day and finds a way to tie it to labor negotiations. She also selects almost-Olympian Seth Beer, because we love our Beer here at NCiB.

announces a steering committee to create a collective voice, and first order of business is support of MLBPA in the lockout. MLB scrubs players’ NIL from their site and does that ever prove a point on the player side. The lockout isn’t even the biggest scandal this week, as everyone’s favorite baseball astrophysicist Meredith Wills’ discovery that MLB secretly used two completely different baseballs this season finally breaks. Pottymouth’s CPBL Lions add insult to injury, Dominican players give back, and Lobas de Areciebo are crowned champs in Liga de Béisbol Femenino de Puerto RicoWe say “rankling”, “Dusty Baker lit it up”, and “I fact-checked my dad.”

Back to back HR Derby wins for Pete Alonso.
Ohtani will bat leadoff and also be the starting pitcher tonight for AL team tonight in MLB All-Star game.  AL has won seven straight classics.    And glad they got rid of the home field advantage to the winner.  Good riddance.
MLB's Rob Manfred another great sports commissioner says the 7 inning doubleheader is gone next year and the man on second in extra innings could be gone in 2022 too.   Great move.
USA Men's basketball lost their second straight exhibition game last night to Australia.  Haven't happened since the professionals started playing for the national team in 1992.

Trey Mancini wishing you a speedy recovery.
Cmon folks Brady just wanted the playbook from the Bucs.  Never too soon to learn your plays.
No love lost between Jordan and Thomas.  Never was a fan of the "Bad Boys" but they did win back to back titles.  But takes nothing to shake hands after a series.  That is sportsmanship.

Episode 34: Beer Can Billy goes to Warshington

Episode 34: Beer Can Billy goes to Warshington
_Don't call it a comeback! It's been too long. Beer Can Billy joined the trio for this one a few weeks back and pushed the boundaries of offense. We reminisce about our summer happenings. BCB saw Billy Joel at Camden Yards, drove on the PA turnpike, took a ride on the Auto Train, and visited both the Flight 93 museum and the infamous Robert Kraft Rub-N-Tug parlor. Guinea John made several trips across the globe. From Hawaii to Italy, from Baltimore to Washington, the travelin' Sicilian has added some miles. We discuss Genesis' "Illegal Alien" and its awful video, watch a compilation of a guy insulting wannabe porn stars, and read another fan email. Obscenities, stereotypes and chauvinism...par for the course when you take the route that is cynic. DOWNLOAD, SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, SHARE! It's cooler than the other side of the My Pillow. _
