    Hosanna!

    Hosanna!

In this episode we welcome the Reverend Doctor Rod Ellis.

We look at the greeting, "Hosanna to the son of David. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest." This is the wonderful greeting to Jesus by the crowd and what we've come to call Palm Sunday. It's packed with meaning. And what does Hosanna mean? It could mean a number of things, but it comes from the Psalms known as the hallel Psalms which means praise. And so Hosanna is a declaration of praise. Our Father in Heaven hallowed be your name. Glory to your name. Praise be to you. We come to hallow to Hosanna and glorify God. But it also literally means a cry for help. Come and save us now. And so as we approach Easter we can truly and sincerely cry Hosanna as we invite the Lord into our personal lives and situations to come and save and bless us.

On Sunday, April 2, for Palm Sunday, Pastor Jeff McLain looked at Luke 19:29-44, and Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem on a donkey. Through this story, we looked at what it means to rightly view Jesus and Jesus' Kingdom.

A colt, the foal of a donkey

I bet you haven’t given much thought to the colt that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on.

There is so much that can be learned from just that piece of the story but in this little session- I only cover the tip of the preverbal iceberg.

Please watch or listen to the session and I’ll bet you’re amazed at what you learn.

    Thanks for tuning in.

    What is There to Celebrate?

    What is There to Celebrate?

It is subtle. Often celebrated as a grand parade of great joy, this entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is far more complicated. And the subtly of the text hints at a broad disconnect between the people, and Jesus.

It is the crowd that is jubilant. But Jesus sees his journey into the holy city in a much different light. His is a perspective that resonates still today with hope, with power, and with love.

Join us as Dr. Jordan guides us through the Triumphal Entry as told by both the gospels of Mark and of Luke, and what it means for you and me today.

He Built This City. He Built This City on Love and Hope. (2 Samuel 5:6-16)

He Built This City. He Built This City on Love and Hope. (2 Samuel 5:6-16)

There is no more significant city in human history than Jerusalem.  In today's passage, David claims the Holy City of Peace for Israel (finally).  It gives us an opportunity to examine the positive and negative history of Jerusalem and its connection to both Israelite identity in Scripture, and our own faith journey today.

Buckle up for LOTS of word nerd stuff.  And burning diapers.  Also, apologies to any Jefferson Starship fans out there.

What made Jesus entry into Jerusalem so triumphant? And what can we as Christians learn from this portion of his Ministry? We'll examine the triumphant entry into Jerusalem from three perspectives.

    (1) Consider the prophetic significance of

    • Zech 9:9

    (2) Consider the events in the immediate wake of Jesus Entry into Jerusalem:

    • Luke 19:11-27
    • John 12:1-11
    • Mark 10:35-45
    • Matt 20:29-34

    (3) Consider this event within the context of God's Divine Plan

    • 1 Tim 2:1-6

The Perfect Storm of the Triumphant Entry!

The Perfect Storm of the Triumphant Entry!
All the players were assembled. All the agendas were presented. Pharisees, Romans, true followers of Jesus, the disciples, those seeking a new Jewish nation and the sight seers -- all the elements for a perfect storm. And in rides Jesus on a donkey. Such a seemingly simple act, but in reality is like a match on gasoline. Jesus confronts every agenda and assumption as He proclaims Himself as the Messiah!

    Why Jesus Wept

    Why Jesus Wept
Palm Sunday is a Christian celebration that falls on the Sunday before Easter. The Feast commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, an event mentioned in the four canonical gospels. On that day, the King of Kings came as a lowly servant on a donkey, not as conquering King in royal robes but on the clothes of the poor and humble. Jesus has not come to force His kingdom on us as earthly kings would but by love, grace and mercy, and His own sacrifice for His people. His kingdom is not of armies and splendor but of lowliness and servant hood. He conquers not nations but hearts and minds of men which brings to anyone who follows Him a lasting peace with God.Let Jesus ride in your heart to reign in peace and love. By this you too will exhibit the same qualities of peace and love to show forth Jesus in your world.
