The learning diary: Matt Pattison gives his perspective on facts learnt from the Covid-19 Side Effects show.

Matt Pattison steps aside from his role as the one asking the questions, to the one answering them. In this episode, Martin Sadofski (screenwriter) asks Pattison, 'what have you learnt so far from interviewing such a broad range of guests.' On one hand we've had guests designing PPE, to the other hand modelling likely deaths, and the impact of obesity and diabetes in the battle with the coronavirus.

Why British obesity levels are leading to higher death rates with Covid 19? Dr Aseem Malhotra talks about obesity and why it's not too late to change

Dr Aseem Malhotra is an NHS Consultant Cardiologist, and world renowned expert in the prevention, diagnosis and management of heart disease. He is a founding member of Action on Sugar and was the lead campaigner highlighting the harm caused by excess sugar consumption in the United Kingdom, particularly its role in type 2 diabetes and obesity. He is now advising the Health Secretary, Matt Hancock  about the links between obesity and metabolic syndrome and Covid-19 deaths.

I had the pleasure of talking with Aseem about the UK obesity crisis, the definitions of metabolic syndrome and why, in a very clear way, it's not too late for us all.
