Our guest this week is Jason Hsieh of University Park, WA. Jason and his wife Miho have been married for 11 years and are the proud parents of three children: Moani (3) who has speech delays, Luana (7) who was diagnosed with Leukemia, and Keanu (10), who has Autism and ADHD.

    Special Fathers Network -
SFN is a dad to dad mentoring program for fathers raising children with special needs. Many of the 500+ SFN Mentor Fathers, who are raising kids with special needs, have said: "I wish there was something like this when we first received our child's diagnosis. I felt so isolated. There was no one within my family, at work, at church or within my friend group who understood or could relate to what I was going through."

SFN Mentor Fathers share their experiences with younger dads closer to the beginning of their journey raising a child with the same or similar special needs. The SFN Mentor Fathers do NOT offer legal or medical advice, that is what lawyers and doctors do. They simply share their experiences and how they have made the most of challenging situations.

TW: This episode contains stories of depression, suicide, and self-harm.
    National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 800-273-8255

ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a neurodevelopmental disorder, commonly portrayed as an inability to sit still and concentrate. While that isn’t completely off base, the reality of ADHD, especially when undiagnosed, is much more complex.

Our friend Carissa joins us today to share her experience with ADHD - she opens up about living with undiagnosed ADHD, navigating the confusing steps to getting a diagnosis, and unlearning the internalized shame and stigma in her ongoing journey to self-acceptance.

KTW 10| Wetlands, Kelp & Science for Creatives with Mo Wise

Mo Wise is a true California girl. She was even on an episode of Laguna Beach (she worked in a surf shop that the reality stars frequented). Mo is laid back and often has salty hair from a day spent in the ocean and dirt under her nails from working in her favorite place- the great outdoors. But don't be fooled by her laid-back attitude and friendly personality, Mo is a serious scientist. She got her undergrad from UC Santa Barbara in Aquatic Science, and after testing the job market for two years she knew her passions lay in fieldwork. (Although gardening in Kauai, HI was a pretty close second). So Mo made the decision to go back to school and last year graduated with her Masters in Marine Science.

Chandra Krintz, Ph.D., Professor of Computer Science, University of California Santa Barbara talks about the SmartFarm vision to bring the same kinds of data analytics and prediction systems that are working well in other sectors of the economy to agriculture. Data from sensors and devices can be coupled with historical data to make more informed farming decisions by considering many variables at once.
