Enda Brady: UK correspondent on the group of conservative MPs seeking to oust Rishi Sunak Labour Leader Keir Starmer

A small group of several Tory MPs are determined to oust Prime Minister Rishi Sunak ahead of the UK election.

Sunak's approval rating puts him 21 percentage points behind his main opponent, Labour Leader Keir Starmer.

UK correspondent Enda Brady says Sunak's odds of winning the election are slim- and it's not a good look that members of his own party are turning on him.

Enda Brady: UK correspondent on Rishi Sunak's declining approval rating ahead of the election

Rishi Sunak's approval rating continues to take a hit in the polls ahead of the election.

His approval rating has reached -49, according to new data from YouGov- a lower rating than Boris Johnson scored after his resignation.

Only 21 percent of British voters hold a favourable view of Sunak, and 70 percent of voters disapprove.

UK correspondent Enda Brady says it's looking likely that the Tories will oust him before next year's election.

Citizenship Travails, Maharashtra Elections, and Election Meddling

Citizenship Travails, Maharashtra Elections, and Election Meddling

On the season two finale of Grand Tamasha, Milan sits down with podcast regulars Sadanand Dhume of the American Enterprise Institute and the Wall Street Journal and the Brookings Institution’s Tanvi Madan to round up this month’s political news from India. First, Milan and his guests discuss the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the protests that have rocked India. Next, they discuss the original “Grand Tamasha,” also known as the never-ending 2019 Maharashtra assembly election. Finally, Milan, Sadanand, and Tanvi debate the unusual intermingling of Indian politics and domestic politics in the United States and the United Kingdom.

This is the last episode of Grand Tamasha in 2019. Join us for season three, which kicks off in late January 2020. We would love to hear from you with any and all feedback on the show--what you like, what you hate, and what guests you’d like to hear from. Please email us at podcasts@ceip.org.

Demagogglebox - Episode 8 - Better Late Than Never (Recorded 26th APRIL 2017)

In April 2017, Theresa May announced a snap election. Mere moments after this and the Demagogglebox team recorded their thoughts.

More than 6 weeks later, the podcast was edited and here is the result.

SPOILERS: samples will be used in a future episode of the podcast whereby Hitch can rub it in Alex's face just how much of a wrong'un he is.

    Unsually nifty bollocks.

UK Election, Trumpcare & Positive Liberty

UK Election, Trumpcare & Positive Liberty
12 June 2017 - While the results of the snap election in the UK were not quite as unexpected as the most recent US election, they came close. Recovering politician and the founder of English Scotts for YES, Math Campbell (@MathCampbell and @EnglishScottsForYES) joins us to sort out the chaos. We take extra time to really understand why British PM Theresa May opted to form a coalition government with the terrorist affiliated political party from Northern Ireland, the Democratic Unionist Party. Since this tipping of the delicate balance in Northern Ireland toward the unionists and away from the republicans could potentially re-ignite the Troubles it seemed worth our time. Math and Will also dissect the voter turnout problem in Scotland and, like the 70,000 voters in the upper Midwest who tipped the entire US election, they cover why the SNP voters who stayed home made such an outsized difference in the result nationwide. We begin with our new weekly segment, the Lying Liar Lie of the Week. Arliss' competitor was proposed by listener @bosengood. Apparently, David Brooks thinks the Flynn/Russia matter had little to do with why Trump fired Comey! Will rejoined with Trump assuring us that he is 100% happy to testify under oath. (Sure you are, Donald.) The American Health Care Act (AHCA / Trumpcare) is back with a vengeance and I went over what we think is in this bill and why the AHCA is incredibly bad even for those with health insurance through their employer. Ben Winkler, of MoveOn.org, has a truly excellent set of instructions and tips for how to optimize a call to your senators and how to #resist. Will got way back to basics, all the way back to Thomas Paine (and further) talking about the principle of positive liberty and why it is this basic core value which distinguishes progressives from conservatives. Positive liberty is about having the capacity to create real opportunity versus the negative liberty principle of not being prevented from achieving an outcome. Positive liberty is why progressives believe in basic rights and is at the heart of the healthcare debate. On a side note, Will and I have begun speaking with some folks who have come forward to volunteer to join the Hopping Mad team. If you are interested please let us know. We are serious about adding more voices. Carrots! - Arliss
