Trauma, Trust, and Triumph—An Interview with Allison Dittmer

Trauma, Trust, and Triumph—An Interview with Allison Dittmer

058—When trauma strikes, it can leave you feeling lost and afraid. And when you are in the midst of it, it can be hard to see the value of what is in front of you.

In this episode, Mary interviews Allison Dittmer, an outdoor adventurist whose life was met with devastating life challenges, including a ski accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Allison shares the life lessons that emerged from it and the magical ways the Universe guided and supported her along the way leading to her family’s decision to sponsor two Ukrainian refugees.

This is a story of how trauma can lead to triumph, and an inspiring example of how leading with trust brings out the good in everyone.

Ukrainian & Living in Portugal, Elisabeth Belous Talks Family & Helping Ukrainian Refugees [Ep 25]

Ukrainian & Living in Portugal, Elisabeth Belous Talks Family & Helping Ukrainian Refugees [Ep 25]

Elisabeth Belous is 27, Ukrainian, but born in Lünen, Germany where after the collapse of the Soviet Union her parents had immigrated, looking for work opportunities and a place to raise a family. In 2004, when she was nine, the family moved to Sacramento, California to be with extended family members who had moved there as refugees in the early 1990s and where her parents found further work opportunities. But in 2007, her parents moved Elisabeth and her brother again, this time to Portugal, to work as missionaries on behalf of the Evangelical church. In recent years, she has been living in Portugal as a single mother, her parents having moved back to the US, and just in the last month, members of Elisabeth’s family fled the  war in the Ukraine, arriving in Portugal where they now live with Elisabeth and her young son.

Ukrainians in SF Are Anxious and Angry, Refugees Need Homes

Ukrainians in SF Are Anxious and Angry, Refugees Need Homes
More than 4 million Ukrainians have fled the country as Russian forces destroy entire cities. A local aid agency is racing to get medical supplies into Ukraine and bringing refugees into the Bay Area. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, members of the Ukrainian diaspora are angry, anxious and desperate to connect with loved ones in their ancestral homeland. We caught up with a few during a sunny weekend afternoon in mid-March where hundreds gathered at the bandshell in Golden Gate Park music concourse for a show called "Slava Ukraini" — Glory to Ukraine.

“Migration” Episode 1: Schengen Borders and Multiple National States of Emergency: From Refugees to Terrorism to COVID-19 with Dr. Elspeth Guild

“Migration” Episode 1: Schengen Borders and Multiple National States of Emergency: From Refugees to Terrorism to COVID-19 with Dr. Elspeth Guild

The Schengen area consists of 26 European states, most members of the EU but some not, and consists of two main features: the absence of intra-Schengen state border controls on persons and a common external border control on entry into the Schengen area. However, this inclusivity has been threatened over time by events like refugee crises, terrorism, and a global pandemic. In light of the present refugee influx from Ukraine, the issue of border control in Europe merits closer inspection.

In the first episode of our new themed series Migration, Dr. Elspeth Guild, Jean Monnet Professor ad personam at Queen Mary, University of London, takes us through the trajectory of abolition and re-introduction of border control in the Schengen states from its formation in 1985 to the present day, in the context of her work Schengen Borders and Multiple National States of Emergency: From Refugees to Terrorism to COVID-19, published by Brill.

    Guest: Dr. Elspeth Guild
    Host: Leigh Giangreco

The ERLC and other pro-life organizations filed an amicus brief in this case urging the Supreme Court to overturn the disatrous Roe v. Wade decision. Members of our team also joined pro-life advocates on the steps of the Supreme Court when oral arguments were heard last December. As we approach the Supreme Court’s final decision in June of this year, it’s important for Christians to pray for this landmark case and begin preparing our churches to serve vulnerable women and children in a potential post-Roe world. But for many, this case is confusing and wrapped in a lot of legal jargon. The ERLC wants to help with that, so we’ve created a resource page that will help you and your church understand what this case means, what could happen if Roe v.
