dattrax: Welcome Fellow House Fanatics to the place where house music resides.
I can't believe that September is almost over. Where does the time go?

I remember thinking often from age 20 and under why time was so freaking slow. Then you hit 35 and up, and time races by relentlessly. You blink, and a decade goes by.

I hope that you're setting out to accomplish your goals. That you've created a plan, put due dates on every important milestone, that you're measuring your progress, that you're rewarding yourself along the way. Over the last six years of my separation/divorce, I've had to fix different areas of my life and have new goals for the rest of 2023.

I'm only sharing with you what I do myself. We connect through house music, but we can share a word of encouragement here or there. Most people don't get any. We all need a gentle push, a hug and a hi-five occasionally.

I'm very thankful you chose to stop by and listen to my mixes. Thank you so much. I appreciate it.

Last Sunday, my friends, Favian and James, decided to have a small get-together at another friend, Hubert's small music studio, CTRL Room. It was a fun time. It's always fun at CTRL Room in the Junction area of the west end of Toronto. A bunch of good friends dropped by, and we hung out.

The late and great comedian and philosopher, Patrice O'Neal gave the best advice: "Your happiness should be your #1 priority." Once you take care of that or are in hot pursuit of that, then everyone you encounter will be blessed with your optimism, positivity, joy and ambition.

Fight the battles inside your mind daily. Win those battles and you'll be happy and nothing will be denied to you. Control your mind, your heart and your body and you'll change your life.

I'm taking my own advice and not just spitting nonsense. Living with a vengeance. I'm disciplining myself. Just finished a 74hrs fast. Going on a low-carb lifestyle. NOT diet, lifestyle. Going to not snack and use aggressive intermittent fasting called OMAD - One Meal A Day to work towards my goal of losing 30lbs by the end of June 2023 (We need to make goals specific, achievable and with a date). Been on a health kick since the end of Jan 2018. Going to do another 3-day fast in a few weeks. Just getting back into the swing of things.

Bought some new spring shoes, a new button-down shirt, and some other clothing items. Looking sharp when I go out. Got a fav cologne, Prada L'Homme (original) and Intense. Been using it for the past few years. Find the things that make you feel great.

Reinventing myself for work in Digital Marketing, specifically SEO. Attending networking events and engaging in daily online interactions, new and old. Daily learning more and more through blog posts, LinkedIn posts, from good friends in my Digital Marketing Mastermind in the messaging app called, Slack, and YouTube. [Yes, I've got tons of SEO & Chat GPT posts & videos marked). I"ll be up to date by the end of June].

There aren't many guarantees in life, but I guarantee that you'll LOVE this 3.5hr journey of house music bliss. You can fight it, but that smile will creep on your face and stretch from ear to ear. You'll start to nod up and down to this hypnotic rhythm. You might even move and dance.

It took over a month to find the tracks in this new session!! Bought 53 new tracks from Traxsource and got a bunch of free tracks from download links from videos by this YouTube channel that I recently found, Child of House (Check them out). Lots of cool house bootlegs, especially some fantastic Sade tracks. Anything with this Goddess sounds great with a four-four beat. Probably take another month to get through this channel's videos.

The process is all the fun. The journey in different areas of my life creates joy. It makes the struggles less painful and the good things more wonderful.

We met that year when he came in on a Sunday morning at 8am from Industry Niteclub with a dozen friends. The happiest group that I had met that weekend. I was managing at 7West Cafe finishing a shift. I had been there for four years at the time. Stayed for a decade. Lol

He asked if I could play his new cassette tape by some no-name DJ from Chicago called DJ Sneak. LMAO.

I was like, "Who TF is Sneak??!". Hilarious!
(Been loving DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter and Doc Martin ever since that year).
That INSANE house music tape was the now famous "Green Bush" mix!! Sneak's first tape in Toronto I believe.
*Bought my first Derrick Carter cassette tape that year, "Dialog" - one of my fav!!

Denny and I have been friends ever since then. 26yrs have gone by in a flash. Just reconnected in July of 2018.

Felt like a more thumpin' mix. I usually like a smooth journey from mellow to wherever I'd like to go and end up, but wanted something different for this one.

This is a short but sweet mix. Just an hour and 8mins (not like the 3-4hr excursions I've been taking the last few years to release all the negativity from my mind, heart, and body).

[I was getting myself into the mood since I was hours from DJing a private BDay party of a Toronto chef and now a friend, Jo Castrinos. WOWZERS. What a party!! Incredible event space and crowd!! I spun for 3.5hrs!!]

I had to cut off the last track short because of a major trainwreck. LMAO. Yes, not DJing too frequently over the last 6mths and it's something I need to do 3X's per week in order to stay sharp.

We're fanatics when it comes to house music. Ever since I was 15yrs old. Started buying vinyl records at 18. 36 crates of records later, then moved to almost 8,000 digital tracks. Compulsive and obsessive? Definitely. Enjoy my passion over the last 30+yrs. It keeps me young and I'd probably give young house DJs a run for their money. Ha ha ha.

dattrax: Welcome Fellow House Luvers!! I'd love the opportunity to take you on a short hour-long ride. This session is filled with gorgeous vocals with Afro-Tech vibes, some alternative techy vocal tracks, some classic house re-rubs with fresh & modern instrumentals, and a few covers or house bootlegs of popular songs.

This session was finished after two attempts at the end of July 2022 and was never released. It was for my friend, Andrew's internet show with a South African audience. We've chatted and I'll be making a special session for this June's release on his show.

He shared that his fanbase is more interested in Toronto house music classics from 1985-2008 or so. I'll be obliging with some special re-rubs and a few new tracks to give it the right feel. I'm honoured to be invited and am very interested in the responses from them.

Last week, I decided to book 5hrs @ctrlroom (my pals, Hubert and Ian's DJ studio - https://www.youtube.com/@CtrlroomCa/videos in the 'Junction' area in Toronto) and invited a bunch of friends old and new to DJ and dance together on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Turning 49 last Sunday would've been crap if I was home alone.

What a party we had. It was wonderful and beyond fun. It made me so happy to see so many old friends and met a few new ones. We danced, drank, talked, hugged, and laughed. Everything house music is about.

Good friends and good music, what more can I ask? I'm very thankful. I've been the happiest in a very long time.

It's been the most challenging last 15mths, but moments like this make all the shitty times worth it.

Thank you to my friend, Jonathan for introducing me to "Go Deep".  We heard it in his car after an amazing GUS Crew party a few weeks back. Such a gorgeous track from beginning to end. Masters at Work (Little Louie Vega & Kenny 'Dope' Gonzalez) has ruled the Toronto house scene for three decades. Every good house DJ has a few dozen MAW records in their collection.

Thank you to my friend, Davidson for introducing me to "Girls Like That!". Soooooooooooo good!! What a fun and funky and bumpy track with vocal snippets that sound like some old Barbera Tucker tracks.

The last track is "Gabriel" and is for my friend, Marcus' daughter, and for another special someone. Both are named Gabriela.
Probably anyone over 40yrs and who lives in Toronto knows this beautiful track from 1996 by Roy Davis Jr and featuring the incredible vocals of Peven Everett.
