Steve Baughman is a classically trained musician who was adopted into a family of music teachers in Sacramento, California. He developed a love for producing early in life, recording his friends on a 4-track, using his closet as a sound booth. Steve studied music at California State University, Chico, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Recording Arts. He then moved to Los Angeles in 1995 and worked his way through the studios, eventually earning a Grammy and working with multi-platinum artists such as Michael Jackson, The Pussycat Dolls, Usher, 50 Cent, Destiny's Child, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and many others. In 2015 Steve co-founded Next Level Mastering where he continues to mix and master today’s biggest artists.

Her brother is severely disabled, her husband to be suffers a brain haemorrhage and she gets diagnosed with PTSD. Listen to how Jo overcame to show all of her colours and perform all she is!

“And again, you know, that's a very vulnerable time when your brain is not in it’s s ort of relaxed state. It’s in a state of fight or flight and panic and the person that doesn't. Is not there. They’re there but they’re not there. I’ve never felt so lonely in my entire life.”

“Anyone who has experienced mental health problems, can relate to this one. If you’re diagnosed with depression or anxiety and you have to withdraw from life a little bit, PTSD does the same thing to you. So I had to step back from life and my friends or certain groups of my friends just did not get it. My best mate in particular, It was so hard for her because I wouldn't let her close. I couldn't, I couldn't let anyone close.”

When you're in trauma and processing trauma, you can't have the mirror of somebody else’s happiness or stability near you.

“I got bullied by my so-called friends, you know? Not all of them, but some of them and singled out. And again, you know, all of those kinds of things happened. Now your listeners might be thinking, well, you know, that was a long time ago. And, um, you know, I'm, I'm kind of the wrong side of 40, let's say now. So it was a long time ago. But ultimately, it does continue into adulthood and workplace bullying, whether it's covert or overt is rife. And also whether it's intentional or not, it's still there. I think what people have to start realising is that your intention may not be to offend, but that doesn't mean that offence doesn't happen.”

In this episode, I chat with Eve Horne. Eve talks us through her journey to being a Singer Songwriter, Producer and Founder of PeakMusicUK. She began at the Brit School, then signed to Polydor, then EMI and toured internationally.

Eve shares her challenges and what changed when she began to say yes to everything. She is passionate about promoting womxn, Black and Minority Ethnic womxn and LGBTQ+ Communities in music. She uses her YouTube channel to provide fun, easy to follow walkthroughs on production hardware and software.

We talk about her life, what we learn from our parents, and her campaign called 'We Are The Unheard', which promotes quality for women in the music industry.

On a mission to change the narrative by raising awareness for equality for womxn in the music industry, singer, songwriter, producer and sound engineer, Eve Horne believes that ‘when it comes to being creative, the music should speak first’. With a lack of role models, Eve is passionate about promoting womxn, black and minority ethnic womxn and LGBTQ+ communities in music and so launched the t-shirt campaign We Are The Unheard to effect change and encourage more womxn to see that they have choices and careers in the music industry.
