Atlanta native Alycia Parks, USTA’s Martin Blackman talk Australian Open and 2023

    Alycia Parks and Martin Blackman
Our Grand Slam correspondent – Martin Blackman of the USTA – previews American players heading into the Australian Open. With eight men aged 25 and younger in the ATP Tour top 50, Blackman sees a great 2023. Additionally, he says Atlanta native Ben Shelton, who past No. 100 in the world last year, is skyrocketing. He also discusses two top 10 women: former Atlantan Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula. We continue to focus on Atlanta as native Alycia Parks sits at No. 75 in the world. The confident 22-year-old, who won in Angers last year, has a big serve and delivers forthright comments on her 2023 goals. Host Sam Crenshaw remembers when he rallied with her years ago. Our junior highlight is Justin Martin of Collierville, Tenn. We honor two USTA Southern award winners Tennis On Campus Club Univ. of North Carolina/Chapel Hill and TOC Leader Crawford Latham of Univ. of South Carolina.

Episode 29: #Whatsmyname - The Unsuspecting Victim Samantha Josephson

Episode 29: #Whatsmyname - The Unsuspecting Victim Samantha Josephson
Samantha Josephson was an intelligent college senior at the University of South Carolina aspiring to be an international law lawyer and had been accepted into numerous Universities to complete her educational path. Unfortunately, Samantha’s life would be cut short by Nathaniel Rowland, a native of South Carolina in the blink of an eye.
After a night of celebration, Samantha would decide she was ready to leave the popular 5 Points area of Columbia, so she ordered an Uber. Soon after a black Chevy Impala would pull up and Samantha would get in. 14 hours later and 65 miles away in New Zion, SC, two turkey hunters would find Samantha’s body in a field with over 120 stab wounds.
It would not be long after the discovery of Samantha’s body that the police would arrest 24-year-old, Nathaniel Rowland. The evidence would be damning for Nathaniel, and he would swiftly be charged with the kidnapping, murder, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
What would cause Nathaniel to kill Samantha? Was this a racially driven murder or was Nathaniel just looking for anyone to kill? Take a listen to this week’s episode when Sam tells the unimaginable tale of the murder of a young college student and case that follows it.
