Dr. Stephan van Vliet earned his PhD in Kinesiology and Community Health from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received post-doctoral training at the Center for Human Nutrition in the Washington University at the St. Louis School of Medicine. As a former member of the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute within the Duke University School of Medicine, his work focused (and still does) on the effects of primary compounds- such as protein, carbohydrates, fats, and vitamins and minerals- and secondary compounds- such as phytochemicals, polyphenols and antioxidants- and the molecular mechanisms by which they impact human metabolism. His work often also involves physical activity interventions and utilizes an integrative approach to improve human health. Dr. van Vliet performs clinical and translational studies to evaluate the effects of whole food ingestion and physical activity interventions on body composition, physical function, inflammation, and intracellular signaling pathways involved in regulating muscle mass with advancing age. He is currently an assistant professor at Utah State University, where we got to record this live conversation!

This week's guest is Paul Murphy, Don's friend and fellow journalism student and practitioner at Utah State University. After graduation, Paul began his broadcast journalism career in Texas, then returned to Utah and worked at KTVX for more than a decade. After that, he jumped into government service as Director of Communications and Policy for the attorney general’s office, where he was for a dozen years. And he’s done plenty since, which we talk about. We had a great time chatting with Paul, and really hope you enjoy the conversation.

This week we’re talking to Julie Williamson, our friend and former co-worker. Don met Julie at Utah State University when both were on the staff of the Utah Statesman, and they later worked together at the Standard-Examiner before Julie decamped for the Deseret News. Julie is a copy editor, which newspapers need but few have nowadays.

Today we have a conversation with Jay Wamsley, who started out as a reporter in Cedar City, Utah, and after working for a while in public relations settled into 31 years as faculty adviser and publisher of Utah State University’s student newspaper, The Utah Statesman. Jay’s helped launch the journalism careers of too many reporters to count, probably, and we’re lucky he said yes to sitting down with us.

Tobijah Tyler (BA in Liberal Arts) talks with Chris Garff , a teacher of media production in JCOM, about his path into the media world. As a freelancer he has had to gain resilience in the field of video production. Tobijah and Chris go in depth into what Tobijah's time at USU helped set him on his current path.

Legendary Quarterback, Chuckie Keeton calls in to chat with Bill and Kellen. Chuckie reminisces about his time in Logan and talks through some of the more memorable games. He also shines some light on why he thinks current Aggie QB, Jordan Love, is a getting attention from NFL scouts. 

Aggie Legend Spencer Butterfield talks to us about his recruitment as a Wide Receiver out of High School, playing Junior College basketball and transferring to USU. We also chat with Spence about his professional career in Europe and his 2 summers as part of the Utah Jazz summer league team.

Coach Smith joins us as we dive into the success of the 2018-19 season, what motivates him and most importantly we discuss his love of professional wresting!
