Today we’re talking the mysterious disappearance of Frederick Valentich. Today’s episode was suggested by one of our Aussie listeners, so thank you for that, and I will honor your request by not attempting an Australian accent.... you’re welcome. As we all know, Australians do it bigger and better, so for this week’s drinking game, let’s follow through with that theme, pick any Australian drink and use it for the game. As always, the drinking game is only for listeners who are at home with no plans to drive anywhere. Please drink responsibly. Now for the game part, every time we say UFO it’s a regular shot and when we say Cessna that will be a double shot. Just a little note, I did have trouble finding information on the case, so tonight’s episode is a little shorter than usual, but we have a few more listener suggestions, that will be longer, and the story is solid, so enjoy. And now that the business end is taken care of, let’s dive in heathens!

On October 21, 1978, 20 year old Frederick Valentich left Melbourne, Australia to begin a 125-mile training flight to King’s Island. He was flying a single engine Cessna. At a little after 7:06 p.m. Valentich made radio contact with air traffic controllers to inquire if there were any other aircraft known to be flying in the area. The answer from Melbourne was no, an answer that was confirmed again during the odd communication that followed.
