Synopsis : L'artiste britannique bien-aimé L. S. Lowry (Timothy Spall) a vécu toute sa vie avec sa mère dominatrice Elizabeth (Vanessa Redgrave). Rongée au lit et amère, Elizabeth a activement tenté de dissuader son fils célibataire de poursuivre ses ambitions artistiques, tout en ne manquant jamais d'exprimer son opinion sur la déception qu'il était pour elle. En même temps, c'est elle qui est l'unique raison pour laquelle Lowry peint tout court, quand il tente désespérément de créer quelque chose qui pourra la satisfaire. Une histoire forte et humoriste qui montre l'impact qu'a eu cette relation mère-fils obsessive sur ce grand peintre.
