What Makes a Good Star Wars Story? The Cavan Scott Interview

What Makes a Good Star Wars Story? The Cavan Scott Interview
One of the ideas that we’ve tried to continue to present on this show for more than four years now, is that Star Wars is best when it’s viewed through the eyes of a children. A few months ago, I was scrolling through Twitter when I saw someone tweeting about how they were experiencing the same thing while watching Star Wars Rebels. That someone was none other than Star Wars author, Cavan Scott. He’s with me on today’s show to discuss it and a lot more. THIS is Tatooine Sons.

Cavan Scott is a New York Times bestselling author whose work includes novels, television, comic books and award winning audio dramas. He has written for a large number of high-profile series including Star Wars, Batman, Doctor Who, Assassin's Creed, Pacific Rim, Transformers, Back to the Future, Star Trek, Vikings, Adventure Time and more. His latest creator-owned comic book series, the supernatural urban fantasy Shadow Service, launched in 2020 from Vault comics.

Cavan's website is the best place to go for news (www.cavanscott.com) and be sure to follow @cavanscott on Twitter. Phase one of Star Wars: The High Republic reaches its galaxy-shaking conclusion in Star Wars: The High Republic written by Cavan Scott. Only one person can save the Jedi from the mysterious monsters that stalk Starlight Beacon. Who will live and who will die? Be sure to grab your copy. And if you’re a DC Comics fan like BB-N8, you’ll want to check out Cavan’s work Titans United. His run finishes this month, but there is more DC Comics work on the horizon. And Cavan's creator-owned comic Shadow Service is returning from Vault this April.

    The Plot

    The Plot

GateSlashers must come to an end. Jake and Dan head to Maine to unearth some family secrets as they talk about The Plot from Vault Comics. They have to prepare for their final showdown with the Grave Robber in order to get their podcast back from his ghoulish grasp. The thing with horror stories… you never know just how they’re going to end.

The Plot was co-written by Tim Daniel and Michael Morecei, art by Joshua Hixson, colors by Jordan Boyd and Kurt Michael Russel, and letters by Jim Campbell.

    Liana Kangas

    Liana Kangas

This week on the podcast we have comics illustrator and author Liana Kangas. We talked about her Industry Fridays interviews, the value of mentorship, and she breaks down self publishing a comic vs. working on creator-owned projects.

The best place to find all of Liana’s work is on her official website. Trve Cvlt Comic is funded, but you can still sign up for the mailing list to get updates on retail copies when they become available. You can support Liana’s work and get cool behind the scenes updates on her Patreon.

Talking to Ghosts is recorded and produced by Michael Kurt and Wes Mueller. For more episodes of the podcast and our recently resurrected Reviews section, please check out our official website. The new cover art was done in house by Wes Mueller!

At Home episodes are recorded by the ever-present, still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Please wear a mask and be safe out there. We’d love to see each other in person some day.
