Growing up Gambling | Tanya Bibbs-Smith

Growing up Gambling | Tanya Bibbs-Smith

Tanya shares a personal story of growing up in an active gambling community and draws parallels to how that environment played a role in her development as a mental health professional.  We discuss her childhood growing up in Chicago during a time when active gambling houses were common within the community and provided a social outlet for family and friends.  Throughout our conversation we discuss how gambling as a group activity has evolved into a more individual (and potentially more easily hidden) model that is available to today’s gambler.

Are You Really Winning | John Harris, a5 Branding & Digital

The state of Illinois recently launched a new advertising campaign aimed at creating awareness for problem gambling.  We sat down with John Harris, President of a5 digital consultancy to better understand the meaning behind the campaign.  While the campaign is designed to create awareness and encourage those with gambling issues to seek assistance, what we ultimately learned is that “Are You Really Winning” is a message of hope.  More information can be found at: www.areyoureallywinning.com or 1-800-GAMBLER or by texting GAMB to 833234.

Big Jackpots & Naked Iowa Woman Causes Major Power Outage at Circa Las Vegas?

Big Jackpots & Naked Iowa Woman Causes Major Power Outage at Circa Las Vegas?

Circa Resort & Casino is one of the newest casino resorts and hotels in Las Vegas. Located in the downtown area, it is also known for having the worlds biggest sportsbook. As of Feb. 1, the casino is now known for the bizarre story of a three-hour power outage. The outage was caused by naked women locked inside a fire control room in the site’s parking garage. Ms. Alissa Neeley was a guest of the Circa until she was evicted for wandering the halls without any clothes. This must-have prompted the 27-year-old Iowa woman to cause $5000 in damage to power equipment.

Local Slot Player Wins Large Las Vegas Jackpot

A local Las Vegas slot player started the month of February on a high note with a huge six-figure win. David Frys has been a long-time loyal customer at Ellis Island Hotel, Casino & Brewery near the Las Vegas Strip. That loyalty paid off on Tuesday, Feb. 2 with a $905,754.63 jackpot hit playing a Buffalo Grand progressive slot. The life-changing win almost put the winner in shock. Christina Ellis is the Marketing Director at the casino that has been family owned and operated for more than 50 years. She was thrilled a local player scored the machine’s Grand jackpot.

Resorts World New York City Looks for Financial Aid From Parent Company

The Genting Group operating as Genting Berhad is one of the biggest gaming conglomerates in the world. However, just like the entire casino industry, its global properties are feeling the strain from COVId-19. In a recent development, the US credit rating service Fitch issued Genting New York a default rating of “BBB-“ in relationship to Resorts World New York City. Fitch believes that an influx of added capital from Resorts World Malaysia is meant to address the situation. The strategic alliance between these two properties is part of the big picture for global expansion. Common management also ties the two together.

In the last story,  Illinois Video Poker Dispute Attracts a Gaming Board Investigation

Rick Heidner is the owner of Gold Rush Gaming. His company leases video poker machines to more than 500 retail locations in Illinois. He has already come under fire with state regulators due to alleged ties to the Chicago mob. Dan Fischer is heavily involved in operating video poker cafes in the state. His company moved to buy out the Stella’s and Shelby’s local chain of 52 cafes a few years ago. Part of that deal would have replaced Heidner’s machines in 44 of those cafes. This is the root of the dispute. However, the bigger issue is the legality of covering the terms of that sale.
