Seeking Virtue and Virtuosity with John Vervaeke and Christopher Mastropietro

John Vervaeke and Christopher Mastropietro engage in a profound discussion on the concept of virtue and its role in both personal development and the wider aims of the Vervaeke Foundation. They delve into how virtue not only shapes moral and ethical decision-making but also influences the Foundation’s approach to community building, personal growth, and addressing the meaning crisis. The dialogue intricately examines the dynamic interplay between theoretical understanding of virtues and their practical application in everyday situations, highlighting virtuosity as a skillful enactment of these principles. Vervaeke and Mastropietro also discuss the Foundation's upcoming projects and initiatives, underscoring their commitment to integrating philosophical insights into real-world contexts. Throughout the episode, they emphasize the importance of balancing the finite and infinite aspects of their endeavors, reflecting on how this equilibrium is crucial for fostering genuine, sustainable progress both within the Foundation and in individuals' lives.

    Episode 19 - Virtuosity

    Episode 19 - Virtuosity

After an Artificial Intelligence designed for a Police training simulation goes rogue, the only hope to capture him is an ex-cop turned convict named Parker Barnes, currently serving life... for murder. Sounds a lot cooler than it is.  This is a very standard, somewhat boring 90's action movie with a little bit of a cyberpunk skin wrapped around it.  We both remembered it with fondness, but that fondness was shot in the face upon revisiting it, much the same way Russel Crowe would shoot an activist for immigrant rights in the face for no reason.

The High Tech Low Life Podcast is a retrospective of cyberpunk fiction across all forms of media. Film, Television, Literature, Games, and Music are all on the table. In each episode we will revisit the property, it's influences, it's prescience, and enshrine it in the chrome and neon halls of Neo Valhalla.

S01E03 - Tricia Park: Virtuosity vs. Voice

By the time she was 16, Tricia Park was a professional violinist. Labeled and marketed as a child prodigy, teenage Tricia toured constantly, playing 70-80 concerts a year. But when, in her early 20s, she aged out of the "child prodigy" range, concert numbers decreased, and she was faced with a major, unforeseen transition. In this episode, we explore the many ways she has adapted to post-child-prodigy life, including her MFA thesis, a novel exploring her Korean heritage.
