Sumana Kaluvai and Shiksha Sneha Talk Immigration and Dreamers

Sumana Kaluvai and Shiksha Sneha Talk Immigration and Dreamers

I’ll be the first to admit that i’m utterly confused with US immigration and visa laws, and I also fully admit I’ve sadly paid little attention to the issue.

So when the founders of The Hidden Dream reached out to me last month, I knew I had to have them on.

The Hidden Dream was built to raise awareness of the countless struggles faced by visa immigrants, to share resources, and to create a community to uplift immigrants who have spent several years in this country without a pathway to citizenship.

They specialize in creating resources for childhood visa arrivals (Children who entered the country on H4, L2, E2 etc. visas and are at risk of deportation)

They serve visa immigrants (including visa dreamers, dependent visa spouses, families affected by the Green Card backlog, mixed status families and international students) by compiling and creating resources, guides, hosting workshops and support groups, providing a safe space for visa immigrants on social media, offering an annual scholarship, and creating crucial networking opportunities.

This non-profit is a run by college/grad students who have all experienced the constant fear of deportation from a country they call home.  We talk about each of their own personal experiences, why immigrant families are embarrassed and fearful to talk about the topic, how they built The Hidden Dream, and what needs to be done to change US immigration laws.

    EPISODE 10 - VISAS

    EPISODE 10 - VISAS
Travelling between countries is amazing, fun, adventurous, and sometimes a complete nightmare if you start thinking about all the paperwork, visas, work permits, time restrictions, and not to mention that if you’re going anywhere for long enough often you’ve got to be able to prove a hefty amount of money in your bank account, proof you’re not there to mooch off their system. This episode is all about VISAS, and by the end of it, you won’t want to hear that word for a while. Lucy is Australian and has been living in Canada for a while now. Up until two years ago, she thought she could be here, hassle free, until she was thirty. Then, out of nowhere, all that changed and both Kelsi and Lucy had to bury themselves in paperwork to prove their relationship wasn’t a fraud so that Lucy didn’t get deported. Tune in to hear the madness, learn what it’s like to be in someone else’s shoes other than your own, and laugh your butts off at some of the things that come up in this episode.
