Ordinarily, we'd have a bunch of sources for biographical or background info here. Su didn't find much so we just mostly talked about the book and the discussions it raised. It was also slated originally for Pride Month, but we suck at our timing!

„A víz a legértékesebb kincsünk. Életet teremt, és életet ad” – vallja a Water&Soil vállalat, amelynek egyik alapítótagjával és igazgatójával, Vattay Richárddal beszélgettünk soron következő podcast adásunkban. 

A vízhiány továbbra is napjaink egyik legnagyobb kihívása.

A világ vízkészletének csupán egy százaléka iható, ennek is jelentős részét – közel 70 százalékát – a mezőgazdasági termelés használja fel. Ezt tovább fokozza, hogy a népesség jelentős része a leginkább vízhiányos területeken él, mint Afrika vagy Ázsia különböző régiói. 

A számok nem túl kecsegtetők tehát, így jogosan merül fel a kérdés, hogy milyen jövő elé nézünk ennek függvényében és hogyan tudunk bölcsen gazdálkodni ezzel a csekély egy százalékkal? Többek között ezekre a kérdésekre kerestük a választ a vendégünkkel.  

A vízgazdálkodás jövője a takarékosságban és a hatékony felhasználásban rejlik. Figyelembe véve a tényt, hogy a hozzáférhető édesvíz 70 százalékát a mezőgazdaságban használják fel, egyértelmű, hogy ebben az ágazatban kell innovatív megoldások után kutatni – állítja Vattay Richárd. 

A számos sikertelen gyakorlat után (lásd például az Indiában végzett kútfúrást követő kiszáradást), fenntartható folyamatokat kell kialakítani, amelyekkel hosszútávon garantálható az öntözés. Olyan technológiára van szükség, amely egyrészt csökkenti az öntözővíz-felhasználást, másrészt ugyanazzal a mennyiséggel nagyobb terület megöntözésére képes. 

A Water&Soil vállalat ötlete 2003-ig nyúlik vissza. A magyar mérnök testvérpár, Vattay Antal és Vattay Richárd arra jutott, hogy érdemes lenne megvizsgálni a klímaváltozás függvényében, mi történik a vízzel és a talajjal. Felismerték, hogy a talajok párolgási vesztesége egy olyan terület, amellyel még aligha foglalkoznak világszerte.

A hosszas tervezés után végül egy interdiszciplináris csapattal olyan magyar találmányt dobtak – immáron a globális – piacra, amely alapján egy speciális folyadékot gyártanak, az ún. Water Retainer-t (VízŐr®). A folyadékot a talaj felszínére kell permetezni, ami ezt követően körülbelül 90-10 nap alatt ott lebomlik.

Ennek megfelelően tehát a használata a biogazdálkodásban is engedélyezett. A folyadék a permetezés után millió apró hidroszkópikus cseppecskét hozn létre, ezzel magához vonzva a vízpárát, majd ezt visszaalakítva folyékony vízzé.

Röviden tehát, a folyadék a talajok párolgási veszteségének csökkentésére alkalmas, miközben teljes mértékben lebomló anyagokból áll. Fontos szempont volt számukra az is, hogy a folyadék hozzáférhető legyen költségszinten a gazdák számára is. Végül 2015-ben engedélyeztette a NÉBIH.

A Water&Soil tevékenysége egy eklatáns példája a klímaváltozás elleni, megoldásokat kereső harcnak.
