Die innovative Technologie basiert auf mehr als zehn Jahren wissenschaftlicher Forschung. Diese setzt Fernride bei Kunden wie Volkswagen, HHLA und DB Schenker ein, um die großen Herausforderungen der Branche zu bewältigen. Das Unternehmen wurde im Jahr 2019 von Hendrik Kramer, Maximilian Fisser und Jean-Michael Georg in München gegründet. Das Startup beschäftigt mittlerweile über 120 Mitarbeitende und die Kundenunternehmen betreiben allein in Europa mehr als 1.000 Yard Trucks.

Zuletzt hatte das Münchener Startup in einer Series-A-Finanzierungsrunde 31 Millionen US-Dollar eingesammelt. Damit zählt es zu den Top 5 der europäischen Deep Tech Series-A-Runden im Jahr 2023. Es ist zudem eines der ersten und größten Investments des frisch gegründeten 1 Milliarde schweren Deep Tech- und Climate Tech-Fonds der Bundesregierung, der den Wandel vom Diesel- und Handbetrieb zum autonomen und elektrischen Lkw fördern will. Nun hat Fernride bekanntgegeben, dass der ehemalige CEO von Siemens, Alcoa und Neom, namens Klaus Kleinfeld, als Vorsitzender in den Vorstand eintritt.
